Kaitlynn Stevens and junior
Taylor Scialdone each recorded five goals and six points to power visiting Western New England University past Smith College, 18-4, in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday at Smith Turf Field. The Golden Bears pick up their first win of the season to improve to 1-1 while the Pioneers fall to 2-1.
Senior Jenny Estes led Smith with a goal and an assist, while Petru Bester, Caroline Myran and Rachel Silveria also found the back of the cage.

Jessica Scannapieco added three goals among four points, a season-high 10 draw controls, three caused turnovers, and a game-best five ground balls for Western New England, which dominated departments in shots (37-10), shots on goal (34-7), ground balls (19-9), draw controls (15-9), turnovers (14-25) and clears (10-for-11, 11-for-18).
The Golden Bears rattled off 12 consecutive first-half goals to take a commanding 12-0 lead into the break. Freshman
Rachel Canning capped the scoring splurge with her first career goal with 42 seconds left on a feed from junior
Tori Cirocco. Canning also had an assist for a career-best two points.

The Pioneers got on the scoreboard moments into the second half, as Estes tallied her fourth goal of the season with 27:30 remaining in the contest.

Emily Dolan and
Julia Winer also registered their first collegiate goals at the 9:35 and 6:15 marks, respectively. Classmate
Sophie Joseph also recorded her first point in a WNE uniform with an assist on Winer's tally.
Senior starting goalie
Emily Castleman made two saves in 46 minutes and 40 seconds of shutout play to earn the win. First-year Sarah Price made a career-high 15 saves in 47 minutes of work between the pipes for Smith.
Western New England is back in action on Tuesday (4 p.m.) against Mount Holyoke College at Golden Bear Stadium--the first of a two-game homestand that also includes Castleton State College two days later (4 p.m.).
