Brooke Kumnick added a game-best six assists (7 points), to power Western New England to a convincing 18-13 victory over Roger Williams in a Commonwealth Coast Conference women's lacrosse game at Golden Bear Stadium on Tuesday. With its 12th consecutive win, the Golden Bears (12-1 overall) take over sole possession of first place in the CCC standings with a 6-0 mark. Deven Machette paced Roger Williams with team highs of five goals, seven points, four caused turnovers and five draw controls. Samantha Davenport, Kelsey Rahilly and Mackenzie Logan (5 ground balls) all had two goals and an assist. Kaelin Hogan also had three points on a goal and two helpers.
In the early going, the visiting Hawks controlled the tempo by scoring two of the game's first three goals. Machette took a feed from Davenport at the 28-minute mark for a 1-0 lead. After junior
Tori Cirocco scored her 25th goal of the season on an assist from Kumnick just 16 seconds later to tie it 1-1, Rahilly put Roger Williams back in front with 26 minutes and 26 seconds later.
That, however, would be the last time the Hawks would hold the lead for the rest of the afternoon. Senior tri-captain
Sarah Stevens scored, unassisted, at 25:42 showing on the clock to ignite a 5-0 run as part of a three-goal spurt in 46 seconds from sister, Kaitlynn, and Scialdone. The Golden Bears led 6-2 after
Kaitlynn Stevens and Scialdone found the back of the cage while the Golden Bears were down a player due to a yellow card.

and Davenport cut the lead to 6-4 before WNE scored the next four goals to make it 10-4. The teams ended the first half by alternating the next five goals, with the Hawks' Caitlin Murphy starting it with a man-up goal at 9:20. Western New England senior goalie
Emily Castleman (5 ground balls) had several good stops among her 13 saves and one of her best stymied Hogan with a free-position shot with 4 seconds remaining, preserving the Golden Bears' 12-7 advantage going into the break.
The second half began with WNE going on a 5-0 run to build its biggest lead at 17-7. The Hawks scored six of the game's last seven goals--including the last five either by man-up or man-down--but couldn't get any closer than the final five-goal margin.
Western New England senior tri-captain
Jessica Scannapieco added a hat trick and three assists for six points and a game-best 11 draw controls. With 530 draw controls in her career, Scannapieco is one of just two current student-athletes in NCAA Division III history to eclipse the 500-plateau.
The Hawks held advantages in shots (37-28) and shots on goal (26-21), but Castleman and the WNE defense were equal to the task. Roger Williams also led in ground balls (30-21), but the Golden Bears dominated 23 to 10 in draw controls.
The Golden Bears will be tested on Thursday when they travel to Williamstown for a non-conference date with nationally-ranked Williams College, starting at 5 p.m.
