Dante Aiken scores three touchdowns as Golden Bears defeat Curry 49-10 in NEFC opener

- Dante Aiken scored three touchdowns, including a 91-yard kickoff return to start the game, as Western New England remained undefeated with a 49-10 victory over host Curry in the New England Football Conference (NEFC) opener for both schools Friday night at Walter M. Katz Field.

The Golden Bears, ranked first in the New England Division III poll, improved their record to 4-0 while the Colonels fall to 1-3.

Aiken rushed for a game-high 91 yards on 11 carries (8.3 avg.) and added a pair of scores of four and 15 yards in the third quarter.

Tyler Ward completed 11-of-21 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown after returning from an injury in the season opener against Springfield. He tossed a 13-yard scoring pass to Garrett Jones that put WNE ahead 21-3 at the 8:21 mark of the second period. Kevin Degnan ran seven yards as the Golden Bears took a comfortable 28-3 advantage at halftime.

Nick Connell (12 carries, 73 yards) had a three-yard TD run and Nick Deternova caught a 10-yard scoring pass from Anthony Service for the other Western New England touchdowns.

Mark Dietrich led 10 players who caught passes with four receptions for 64 yards.

Obi Etuka had his NCAA Division III best fifth interception of the season in the second quarter. Timothy Huffam compiled five tackles and had a fumble recovery. Sam Olsson also had five stops.

EJ Franskevicz had a nice game averaging 40.0 yards for five punts with a long of 50 and one kick landing inside the hosts 20.

Mike O'Hearn was 14-for-33 passing for 121 yards while Anthony Nastasi had nine catches for 121 yards for the Colonels.

Western New England outgained Curry by a 516 to 210 margin.
