Western New England finishes in seventh place after two days at Elms Blazer Invitational

EAST LONGMEADOW, MA - The Western New England men's golf team fired a 313 score in the final round to place seventh among 20 schools at the Elms Blazer Invitational Sunday (Sept. 27) at Elmcrest Country Club.

The Golden Bears had a two-day total of 628 after compiling a 315 in the opening round yesterday.

Matt Fontaine fired a 75 for the second consecutive day to lead the Golden Bears. He finished in a tie for seventh among the 100 players.

Nick Shemkovitz posted a 76, which was a three-stroke improvement from Saturday's outing, for a 155 total that tied for 18th.

Erik Laaksonen had a 162 score (83-79) that tied for 45th while Joe Ciolek posted a 163 (78-85) that tied for 49th. Mike Metcalf finished with a 166 (83-83) that tied for 55th.

Occidental College (CA) captured top honors with a 595 total with Colton Bares (72-74) and Will Mansfield (74-72) sharing medalist honors with scores of 146 covering 36 holes over the 6,347-yard course.
