SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Host Springfield College scored in the 3rd minute to set the tone for a 3-0 victory Tuesday over city rival Western New England University in non-conference women's soccer action at Brock-Affleck Field. The Pride, who are predicted to repeat as champions in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference this fall, move to 2-0-1 while the Golden Bears fall to 1-2-1 on the season.
The Pride got all the offense they would need just 2 minutes and 41 seconds after the opening kick-off as Nicole Fowler fed a throw-in to Amanda Calzolano for the contest's first goal on a high-arching shot from the top of the box
The Pride outshot the Golden Bears, 18-1, and also led 11-2 in corner kicks.

Emma Norden registered Western New England's only shot of the night--a header that went wide--early in the second half.
Brooke Fairman and Ciara Boucher combined on the shutout win without having to make a save.

With 4:47 remaining in the opening stanza, Springfield added to its lead, as Elizabeth Monsen took a free kick from the left sideline, which was redirected by Monique Marcelino, only to find the foot of Kim Quiles, who finished the chance into the empty net to give the Pride a 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
Up next, Western New England travels to Wenham to square off against Gordon College on Saturday (noon) in the Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both sides. Springfield will return to Brock-Affleck Field on Saturday, as the Pride will host UMass-Dartmouth at 1:30 p.m.
