Western New England Uses First Half Barrage to Secure Key CCC Victory over Curry, 3-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 18, 2016) – The Western New England University men's soccer team broke out for three first half goals on its way to a 3-1 victory over Curry College this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Suprenant Field.

Top Performers
• Junior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) fueled Western New England's first half barrage with a pair of goals, his ninth and tenth of the season. Remillard led all players with nine shots, four of which were on goal.

• Junior forward Ben Silvia (Dartmouth, Mass.) accounted for Curry's lone goal early in the second half.

Match Review
• Remillard staked the Golden Bears to a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute after receiving a pass from senior midfielder Ryan Dickinson (South Hadley, Mass.), beating a defender and finding the top left corner of the net.
• Western New England made it 2-0 at the 28:56 mark with a shot by Remillard that deflected off Curry freshman goalkeeper Mike Russo-Penta (Malden, Mass.) and into the net.
• Senior defender Brandon Bolger (Saratoga, N.Y.) capped the three-goal half in the 41st minute, scoring his first of the season on a feed from freshman forward Corey Brown (Somers, Conn.).
• Curry was able to get one goal back 7:27 into the second half, as freshman midfielder Brandon Rinaldi (Bethlehem, Conn.) sent in a cross from the right side and Silvia headed it into the top right corner of the net.
• Western New England nearly restored its three-goal advantage with just under 15 minutes remaining in the contest, but junior midfielder Logan Pingree's (Middletown, Conn.) shot was stopped by Curry senior goalkeeper Dan Johnson (Easton, Conn.).

Notes
• Western New England outshot Curry 13-5 in the first half and 20-9 for the game.
• The Golden Bears also held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
• Remillard leads Western New England and ranks third in the CCC with 22 points on ten goals and two assists following his performance today.
• Senior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.) finished with four saves for the Golden Bears. Russo-Penta and Johnson combined to make nine saves for Curry.
