Box Score Chiodini leads Western New England with 14 kills, 19 digs
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 19, 2016) – The Endicott College volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 set deficit to earn a 3-2 (19-25, 19-25, 25-13, 25-23, 15-12) victory over Western New England University this evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.
Top Performers
• Junior outside hitter Emmaline Chiodini (Saint Louis, Mo.) hit .324 with a team-high 14 kills, 19 digs and three blocks.
• Senior setter Jenna Leuck (Dumont, N.J.) established a new career-high for the second consecutive match with 47 assists. Leuck also tallied 13 digs and two aces.
• Junior middle hitter Carly Skibinski (Milford, N.J.) contributed 13 kills, three digs and three block assists.
• Endicott senior outside hitter Tori McIntyre (San Diego, Calif.) hit .312 and racked up a match-high 19 kills to go with 22 digs.
• Sophomore outside hitter Emma Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) added 15 kills for the Gulls.
Match Review
• Western New England hit .310 with 15 kills and just two errors in 42 attempts in the opening set en route to a 25-19 win.
• The Golden Bears opened up a four-point lead (8-4) early in the second set and eventually extended their advantage to seven (13-6), before holding off an Endicott rally to claim a 2-0 lead in the match.
• Endicott raced out to a 12-4 lead in frame three and didn't look back, staying alive with a 25-13 win.
• Western New England faced an 18-10 deficit in the fourth set following three straight kills by Mancini, but the Golden Bears were able to cut their deficit to one (22-21) after a kill and an ace by Chiodini. McIntyre answered with a kill for the Gulls, however, as Endicott held on for the win to force a fifth set.
• Endicott's momentum continued into the final frame, as the visitors opened up an 8-5 lead midway through the set. A kill by Skibinski later in the set pulled the Golden Bears back to within two (14-12), but Western New England was unable to close the gap as the Gulls completed their comeback with a 15-12 triumph.
Notes
• Endicott made just 12 attack errors over the final three frames after recording 15 combined during their losses in the first two sets.
• Western New England's loss is just its third at home all season (9-3).
• Leuck, who was named the CCC Player of the Week on Monday, has tallied 92 assists and 22 digs over her last two matches.
