NEWPORT, R.I. (February 16, 2016) - After succumbing to a 14-5 run to open the game, the Western New England University men's basketball team fell to Salve Regina, 83-49, at the Rodgers Recreational Center on Tuesday night.

The Seahawks' early offensive attack persisted throughout the game, fueled by double-figure performances from four players.
Nicholas Bates scored a game-high 18 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the field, and
Bryce Boggs added 17 points and eight rebounds. On 5-of-6 shooting from the field,
Barnett Hanlon chipped in 13 points and corralled 11 rebounds, and
David Hanson contributed 15 points of the bench, sinking 8-of-10 free throws.

After struggling to keep up in the first half, the Golden Bears opened the second half strong, stringing together an 11-7 run, cutting the Seahawks' lead to 21 points. Freshman guard
Mikey Pettway (Bridgeport, Conn.) led the Golden Bears in scoring, connecting on 5-of-10 from the field, totaling 13 points. Co-captain
Andre Joyner (Norwich, Conn) added eight points, draining two three-pointers, and junior guard
Keegan Dudeck (Longmeadow, Mass) added six points and two steals.

The Seahawks shot 52.7 percent from the field on 29-of-55 shooting, while the Golden Bears posted 25.9 field-goal percentage on 15-of-58 shooting. Both teams saw a significant contribution from their reserves - the Golden Bears' bench scored 23 points and the Seahawks' bench had 27.

Working the ball inside, the Golden Bears continued to draw fouls, reaching the charity stripe 14 times and converting on 11 of those attempts. Salve Regina hit 19-of-32 free throws for a 59.4 percent average.

The Golden Bears (8-16, 6-11 CCC) will travel to Endicott on Saturday for their final game of the season, and the Seahawks (9-13, 6-9 CCC) will also be on the road the same day, visiting The University of New England.Â
