SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 5, 2016) - Senior
Taylor Scialdone (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) notched a career-high 11 points, leading the Western New England University women's lacrosse team to a 14-8 victory over Smith College this afternoon in non-conference action at Golden Bear Stadium.
Scialdone registered five goals and six assists, while classmate
Brooke Kumnick (Granby, Conn.) had six points (four goals, two assists) in the contest as the Golden Bears improved to 2-1. Sophomore goaltender
Shannon McFadden (West Islip, N.Y.) made ten saves in the cage, earning her second win of the season.

Emily Biggs (Florence, Mass.) led Smith's offensive attack with three goals, while senior
Ray Silveria (Dunstable, Mass.) and freshman
Bayleigh Bogan (Encinitas, Calif.) contributed two goals each.
Bogan opened up the scoring for the Pioneers by burying her free position shot nearly five minutes into the contest. With 22:02 left in the first half, senior

Alexa Kimker (Waltham, Mass). Sophomore
Emily Dolan (Merrick, N.Y.) would score her first of the season just over a minute later, and the Golden Bears never looked back. Western New England continued to roll, leading 9-4 at the break.
Just 31 seconds into the second half, sophomore
Julia Winer (Longmeadow, Mass.) kept the momentum going for the Golden Bears, extending the lead to 10-4. After a quick response by the Pioneers, Western New England would regain control and score four consecutive goals, three from Scialdone and one by Kumnick.
The Pioneers attempted to get back in the game with goals from freshman
Chloe Harris (Alexandria, Va.), Bogan, and Silveria in the final 4:37 of the contest, but their deficit was too much to overcome.
The Golden Bears held the advantage in shots (25-20), shots on goal (22-19), and ground balls (30-23), while Smith claimed a 15-9 edge in draw controls.
With their season-opening three-game homestand complete, the Golden Bears head up to Castleton University in Castleton, Vt. on Thursday, March 10 to take on the Spartans. The Pioneers are next in action on the 10
th as well when they head to Boston, Mass. to face Simmons College.
