CRANSTON, R.I. (April 16, 2016) - The Western New England University men's golf team sits in tenth place after the first round of the Wildcats Spring Invitational, hosted by Johnson & Wales University at Cranston Country Club in Cranston, R.I.
 
Western New England posted a team score of 335, good for tenth in the 19-team field. Junior Matt Fontaine (East Longmeadow, Mass.) led the way for the Golden Bears, shooting a seven-over par 79, good for a tie for seventh place overall.
 
Sophomore Joe Ciolek (South Hadley, Mass.) is tied for 32^nd after day one with a score of 83, while sophomore Mike Metcalf (Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Joe DaSilva (Watertown, Conn.) find themselves tied for 57^th and 59^th, respectively, after turning in scores of 86 and 87. Sophomore John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) rounds out Western New England's five individual participants with a score of 91, placing him in a tie for 77^th.
 
Western New England will be back in action tomorrow when play resumes at the Wildcats Invitational. Sunday's tee times are slated to begin at 9:30 a.m.
