Golden Bears in Tenth After First Round of JWU Wildcats Spring Invitational

CRANSTON, R.I. (April 16, 2016) -
The Western New England University men's golf team sits in tenth place after the first round of the Wildcats Spring Invitational, hosted by Johnson & Wales University at Cranston Country Club in Cranston, R.I.
 
Western New England posted a team score of 335, good for tenth in the 19-team field. Junior Matt Fontaine (East Longmeadow, Mass.) led the way for the Golden Bears, shooting a seven-over par 79, good for a tie for seventh place overall.
 
Sophomore Joe Ciolek (South Hadley, Mass.) is tied for 32nd after day one with a score of 83, while sophomore Mike Metcalf (Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Joe DaSilva (Watertown, Conn.) find themselves tied for 57th and 59th, respectively, after turning in scores of 86 and 87. Sophomore John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) rounds out Western New England's five individual participants with a score of 91, placing him in a tie for 77th.
 
Western New England will be back in action tomorrow when play resumes at the Wildcats Invitational. Sunday's tee times are slated to begin at 9:30 a.m.
