SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 2, 2016) - The Western New England University women's lacrosse team posted an 8-1 run over the final 12:30 of the first half en route to a 23-8 senior day victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Golden Bear Stadium.

Julia Winer (Longmeadow, Mass.) led the way with seven points (four goals, three assists), while seniors
Bethany Peters (Baiting Hollow, N.Y.),
Taylor Scialdone (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and
Ashley Brunner (Stratford, Conn.) recorded six each. Senior
Brooke Kumnick (Granby, Conn.) added four points (three goals, one assist) on a game-high 16 shots as Western New England (8-2, 2-0 CCC) outshot the Leopards by a 55-14 margin.

Shannon McFadden (West Islip, N.Y.) was forced to make just four saves, while classmate
Madison Cutler (Pittston, Maine) came on for the final 11:26 and stopped the only shot she faced.

Brooke Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) paced the Wentworth offense with four goals, and also recorded six draw controls and two ground balls. Junior
Amanda Dexter (Harvard, Mass.) added two goals, while graduate student
Liz Glavin (Ipswich, Mass.) scored and handed out an assist for the Leopards (2-8, 0-2 CCC).

Hayley Patton (Cranston, R.I.) registered a game-high 21 saves in the Wentworth cage to go with six ground balls.

The Leopards managed to keep the contest close through the first 15 minutes of action, trailing by just one goal (5-4) after Glavin beat McFadden with 14:51 remaining in the first half.

Western New England took control from there, however, scoring the next three goals and eight of the next nine to close out the period. Seven different Golden Bears scored during the 8-1 run as the home team carried a 13-5 lead into the break.

 Goals by Paradis and Dexter early in the second half had Wentworth back within seven (14-7), but the Leopards got no closer as Western New England outscored them 9-1 over the final 21:03 of the game. Scialdone netted her 44

th goals of the season late in the second half, while sophomore
Lauren Hurley (Saint James, N.Y.) and freshman
Briana Petrucelli (Wallingford, Conn.) also got in on the action.

In addition to their significant advantage in shots, the Golden Bears also held the edge in ground balls (27-19) and draw controls (20-13) while going 14-of-18 on their clear attempts and limiting the Leopards to just 8-of-23 clears.

Western New England returns to action on Wednesday afternoon at Roger Williams in a rematch of the 2015 CCC title game, while Wentworth hosts Curry next Saturday at noon.ÂÂ
