HONEOYE FALLS, N.Y. (May 11, 2016) - The Western New England University men's golf team finished its trip at the 2016 NCAA Division III Championships in 18
th place following round two action today at Mendon Golf Club in Honeoye Falls, N.Y.

The Golden Bears followed up yesterday's opening round score of 311 at Midvale Country Club in Penfield, N.Y. with a 310 today on Mendon's par-71, 6,645-yard layout, missing the cut by just six strokes. Western New England's two-round total of 621 (49-over par) was good for a tie for 18
th place in the 41-team field with Concordia (Texas) University.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) claimed the team title with a two-day score of 585, nine strokes better than second place Washington & Lee (594). St. Thomas (Minn.) and Methodist (N.C.) tied for third (597), while Huntingdon College (Ala.) rounded out the top-five with a score of 600. Kethan Reddy of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps beat out a trio of competitors by one stroke for medalist honors after firing a combined score of 143.

Junior
Matt Fontaine (East Longmeadow, Mass.), who led the Golden Bears with a 76 yesterday, posted a 75 today to finish in a tie for 36
th with a two-day total of 151. Fontaine's lone birdie of the day came on the par five, 498-yard 16
th hole.

Sophomores
John Abbott (Higganum, Conn.) and
Joe Ciolek (South Hadley, Mass.) finished in a tie for 89
th with two-round scores of 157. Ciolek birded the second, tenth and 16
th holes, but also posted a pair of double bogeys en route to a 78 today, one stroke better than his opening round effort. Abbott, who sat in 52
nd after round one, followed up his 77 with an 80 during round two.

Rounding out Western New England's five participants were sophomore
Mike Metcalf (Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior
Joe DaSilva (Watertown, Conn.). Metcalf's 77 today helped move him up the leaderboard from 123
rd, where he sat following round one, up to 104
th with a combined total of 158. DaSilva fired an 84 today and finished with a two-round score of 163, placing him in a tie for 150
th in the 210-player field. ÂÂ

Western New England, which was making its second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships after repeating as Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) champions this spring, finished 33
rd out of 41 teams (638) at the 2015 Championships, which were held at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.

This year's tournament will continue with round three tomorrow before culminating with round four on Friday as the NCAA crowns its 2016 champion.
