(May 4, 2016) - The top-seeded Roger Williams University women's lacrosse team overcame a late deficit to force overtime, before pulling out a 12-11 victory over fourth-seeded Western New England University this afternoon in the semifinal round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament at Bayside Field.

Roger Williams (14-3) advances to Saturday's CCC championship game, and the Hawks will host Endicott, which defeated the University of New England in today's other semifinal contest. Western New England's season comes to a close at 12-7.

Western New England secured the opening draw of overtime and had an opportunity to win the contest, but sophomore
Julia Winer's (Longmeadow, Mass.) shot sailed just wide of the cage. Roger Williams regained possession following a Golden Bear turnover, and sophomore
Carly Martin (Scituate, Mass.) found junior
McKenna Everding (Fayetteville, N.Y.) for the game-winning goal with 4:12 on the clock.

Kumnick led Western New England with five points (four goals, one assist), while Winer finished with four (two goals, two assists) classmate
Ashley Brunner (Stratford, Conn.) chipped in with three (two goals, one assist).

Shannon McFadden (West Islip, N.Y.) stopped 17 shots in the cage, her fourth 15+ save performance this season.

Hogan paced the Hawks with a game-high seven points (five goals, two assists) on 17 shots, while Everding and Martin combined for nine points on five goals and four assists.

Facing an early 2-1 deficit, the Golden Bears posted a 4-0 run that spanned 12 minutes midway through the first half to open up a 5-2 advantage. Western New England led by that same margin (6-3) at the break, but Roger Williams was able to pull to within one goal (7-6) following Everding's 72
nd of the season with just under 18 minutes left in regulation.

The Golden Bears answered with a 3-0 run, as Brunner, Winer and freshman
Kristen Breen (Ellington, Conn.) all found the back of the net to give Western New England its largest lead (10-6) with 10:53 on the clock.

Roger Williams utilized a 3-0 run of its own, however, which included two goals from Hogan, to pull back to within one (10-9) at the 2:54 mark, and Hogan came through with more late heroics to send the game to overtime.
