Second Half Goal Lifts Endicott to 2-1 Win over Western New England

Box Score

Klesyk scores for third straight game

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 18, 2018) – The Western New England University field hockey team came up just short in a 2-1 loss to Endicott College on Tuesday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Golden Bear Stadium.

Top Performers
Freshman forward Taylor Klesyk (Hamden, Conn.) continued her strong stretch of play for Western New England with her third goal of the season, which came early in the contest.

Senior goalkeeper Dana Dufour (Gloucester, Mass.) saved eight of the ten shots she faced in the cage.

For the Gulls, freshman midfielder Sydney Poulin (Watertown, Mass.) and junior forward Kristen McCarthy (Danvers, Mass.) provided the offense with one goal each.

Game Review
Klesyk put the Golden Bears ahead 1-0 just 3:42 into the contest, when she fired a shot past Endicott sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Farrin (Danvers, Mass.) after receiving a pass from junior Jessica Clifford (Auburn, Mass.).

The Gulls equalized just 78 seconds later, however, on Poulin's unassisted tally. The two teams went into the break tied 1-1 with Endicott holding a 10-1 shot advantage.

Shortly after Clifford had a shot saved by Farrin at the 48:08 mark, McCarthy recorded the go-ahead goal for Endicott on a feed from sophomore midfielder Lauren Whitney (Poway, Calif.).

The visitors had an opportunity to add to their lead at 51:43, but junior Madison Barron (Lebanon, Pa.) came up with a key defensive save on a shot by senior Maggie O'Reilly (Cheshire, Conn.).

With nine minutes remaining, the Golden Bears had a 2-on-0 break, but were unable to get a shot off. Endicott held on the rest of the way to escape with the win.

Notes
• Five of the last six meetings between Endicott and Western New England have been decided by one goal.
• Klesyk has scored in three consecutive games and ranks third on the team with three goals.
