NORTON, Mass. (September 5, 2018) – The Western New England University men's soccer team used a strong second half performance to earn a 3-0 victory at Wheaton College on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Keefe Field.

Top Performers
Junior forward Brendan Claflin (Burlington, Mass.) broke the scoreless deadlock in the 59th minute with his first goal of the season, while sophomores Josh Labonte (Ludlow, Mass.) and Matt Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) added insurance tallies later in the half.

Senior goalkeeper Sam Brewer (Westford, Mass.) needed to make just one save to improve to 2-1 this season.

Game Review
The opening half featured just one shot on goal, which came courtesy of junior forward Corey Brown (Somers, Conn.) 17 seconds into the contest.

Western New England outshot Wheaton 7-2 in the frame, but neither team was able to break through in the first 45 minutes of play.

Claflin got the Golden Bears on the board at the 58:10 mark, when he collected the ball on the right side and beat Wheaton freshman goalkeeper Diego Medina (Yonkers, N.Y.) with a shot to the far post.

Just over six minutes later, Labonte doubled Western New England's advantage with his first goal of the season.

Remillard capped the scoring in the 83rd minute with an insurance goal, as he beat a defender and buried a shot in the left corner of the net.

• Western New England controlled the contest with a 19-9 shot advantage and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
• Remillard has now scored in consecutive games after finding the back of the net in Sunday's 3-0 triumph at MCLA.
• The Golden Bear defense limited Wheaton to just one shot on frame in each half.
