Clark Rallies Late to Edge Western New England, 4-3

WORCESTER, Mass. (September 8, 2018) – The Clark University field hockey team scored three unanswered second half goals to edge Western New England University 4-3 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Granger Field.

Top Performers
Junior Jacqueline Clark (Auburn, Mass.) recorded two goals for Western New England, doubling her season total. Sophomore Haley Daigneault (Longmeadow, Mass.) was assertive offensively registering five shots on goal. She finished with one goal and an assist.

Senior Dani Michaud (Providence, R.I.) had an impressive day in the cage for Clark, saving 16 shots. Freshman Emma Boland (Redding, Conn.) recorded the game-tying goal for the Cougars, while sophomore Cheyenne Zappala (Laconia, N.H.) tallied the game-winner.

Game Review
The Golden Bears took an early lead when Clark scored at the 15-minute mark, but the home team equalized at 17:55 when senior Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington, Md.) scored on a feed from sophomore Chase Collier (Lisbon, Maine).

With the help of an assist from Daigneault, Clark would get her second goal of the game to regain the lead for Western New England six and a half minutes before the break.

The Golden Bears stretched their lead to 3-1 after a Daigneault goal at the 44:06 mark, but the Cougars responded with three unanswered scores to pull ahead. The first came at the 47:46 mark from junior Mikayla Pantano (East Bridgewater, Mass.), and Boland buried the game-tying goal at 60:21, before Zappala secured the go-ahead strike with just over six minutes to play.

• Western New England doubled Clark's shot total with a 26-13 advantage. The Golden Bears also held a 6-4 edge in penalty corners.
• Through three games this season, Clark and Daigneault rank first and second on the team with eight and seven points, respectively.

Western New England (0-3) will look to pick up its first win of the 2018 campaign on Wednesday evening, when the Golden Bears open CCC play at the University of New England. Clark (3-0) hosts Anna Maria on Tuesday.
