Women's Swimming Splits Tri-Meet with Eastern Connecticut & Plymouth State

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The Western New England University women's swimming team won five events while splitting a tri-meet with Eastern Connecticut State University and Plymouth State University on Saturday afternoon at Eastern's Sports Center Pool.

The Golden Bears defeated the host Warriors, 142-117, but fell to Plymouth State 136-119.

Senior captain Emily Elliott (Cortland, N.Y.) led the way for the Golden Bears, accounting for three of the team's five event wins. She took first in the 400-IM (5:16.00), the 50-breaststroke (34.60 seconds) and the 200-breaststroke (2:41.90).

Elliott also swam the anchor leg of Western New England's 200-freestyle relay, along with sophomore Hannah Tricarico (Seymour, Conn.), junior Sarah Bartlett (Branford, Conn.) and freshman Renee Lussier (Northampton, Mass.). The Golden Bears finished first with a time of 1:52.12.

Bartlett was responsible for Western New England's other event win, as she captured the 200-butterfly while clocking in at 2:31.45.

Sophomore Kim Shekosky (Middletown, Conn.) turned in a pair of runner-up finishes in the 200-backstroke (2:33.36) and the 200-IM (2:36.36)

Also posting second place finishes were Tricarico in the 200-freestyle (2:12.48) and Lussier in the 50-freestyle (28.95 seconds).

Up Next
Western New England returns home next Friday night (11/22) to host Rhode Island College in a dual meet at the AHLC Pool.
