Women's Soccer Rolls to 7-0 Win over Mount Holyoke

Golden Bears post highest scoring output since 2010 campaign

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 10, 2019) – The Western New England University women's soccer team cruised to a 7-0 victory over Mount Holyoke College on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Suprenant Field.

Top Performers
Junior midfielder Mariana Goncalves (Ludlow, Mass.) led Western New England's offensive outburst with a pair of goals, while juniors Kristin Decost (Hudson, N.H.) and Bee Murphy (Monson, Mass.) and freshman Allyson Hill (Storrs, Conn.) each tallied one goal and one assist. Sophomore Allison Bruehwiler (Old Saybrook, Conn.) helped facilitate the offense with a trio of assists.

Senior goalkeeper Alex Lemekha (Stamford, Conn.) posted her second shutout of the season behind a defensive unit that surrendered just two shots without a single attempt on target.

Game Review
Western New England opened the scoring six minutes into the contest, when Goncalves received a pass from Decost and fired a shot off the crossbar and into the back of the net.

In the 15th minute, the Golden Bears doubled their advantage as Decost stuffed home a rebound at the goal line after Bruehwiler placed a shot off the far post.

Western New England continued to add to its lead in the 20th minute, when Murphy found the net from just outside the box, giving the home team a 3-0 advantage.

Bruehwiler set up sophomore Samantha Vitka (Stratford, Conn.) for the Golden Bears' fourth goal at the 51:02 mark, and freshman Allyson Hill (Storrs, Conn.) made it 5-0 with her first collegiate tally in the 54th minute.

Goncalves scored her second of the game just over four minutes later, before freshman Danielle McCarthy (Old Lyme, Conn.) netted her first career goal at the 60:43 mark to cap the scoring in the contest.

• Seven goals represents Western New England's highest scoring output since the Golden Bears defeated Eastern Nazarene 7-0 on October 5, 2010.
