Golden Bears Record Second Shutout Win over Anna Maria

AUBURN, Mass. (October 30, 2021) – The Western New England women's ice hockey team hit the road for their second game this season traveling to Anna Maria for a rematch of the Friday night game that the Golden Bears won 4-0. The Golden Bears kept their momentum and continued to roll with another 4-0 win for their second game in program history.

Records:

  • Western New England: 2-0
  • Anna Maria: 0-2

How It Happened:

Western New England opened the game with energy. After killing a powerplay, the Golden Bears charged offensively recording a shot just five seconds after the powerplay ended. At the 7:35 mark, Sydney Conte recorded her first career goal off a pass from Natalie Parker to put the Golden Bears ahead 1-0. The Golden Bears killed another powerplay in the first period and were unable to convert on their own powerplay before the time ran out. Western New England went into the first intermission with a. 1-0 lead.

The second period opened evenly matched with both teams recording multiple shots in the up and down action. Right after a powerplay, the Golden Bears were able to strike again this time Abby Hay finding the back of the net from Kelly Yorkey. Not even two minutes later, the Golden Bears scored again with Yorkey scoring the goal this time and Parker notching her second assist of the game. Western New England went into the second intermission ahead 3-0.

Just over three minutes into the third period the Golden Bears scored what would be the final goal of the game. Hay converted for the Golden Bears once again for her second goal in the game with assists from Allison Walker and Alyssa Murphy to seal the 4-0 shutout win for Western New England in just their second game in program history.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Hay scored twice in the game while Conte recorded her first career goal and Yorkey tallied the fourth goal.
  • Parker earned two assists while Yorkey, Murphy and Walker each earned one assist apiece.
  • Sierra Dennis earned her first career shutout win with 13 saves in the game.

The Golden Bears return to the ice on Friday, November 5th when they travel to conference rival Curry for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
