Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 9, 2021) – The Western New England men's soccer team dropped their first CCC conference game of the season as they were unable to slip by the visiting Curry Colle Colonels, as the Golden Bears saw the connection of Lucas Drons and Ean McGonigle connected twice for Curry. Roger Leland would credit the lone tally for WNE in the loss.

How it Happened:
The first half brought little offense as both the Colonels and Golden Bears were held scoreless. Curry College got the better of the scoring chances in the first half, though starting GK for Western New England Brady Allen kept the Colonels off the scoreboard, saving all four shots he faced. WNE put one shot on goal in the first half. Curry managed three corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes of play, where the Golden Bears took just one.
Western New England would see Curry get on the board in the early portions of the second half when Ean McGonigle sent a through ball to Lucas Drons who bad a move on the Golden Bears goalkeeper and slid the ball into the back of the net, giving the Colonels the 1-0 lead. Defense would be the name of the game through the middle of the second half as Western New England pushed for the equalizing tally. Andrew Crean and Sean Lanzillo would both record shots on goal for the Golden Bears though Tremblay was up to the task.
The connection of McGonigle to Drons would strike again for Curry College in the 74th minute when nearly the same play occurred as McGongile sent a ball to Drons would slip a shot into the lower right corner of the net to give the Colonels the 2-0 lead. Drons would connect on his third goal of the season and expanded the Curry College lead to two. Western New England would quickly fight back and find their offensive foot when Malik Serriser made a thrown onto the foot of Roger Leland who then took a shot past the give of Tremblay and into the back of the net to give the Golden Bears life late in the second half. Leland collected his second goal of the season.
An attempt toward goal to tie the game for the Golden Bears came from Brandon Lewis, who ripped a shot from the left side of the box, though Kyle Tremblay would make the save of the Golden Bears midfielder to keep Curry ahead. Curry College would keep the ball for much of the final minutes of the game, while the Golden Bears put up seven shots on goal, it was not enough to take down CCC opponent Curry College as the Colonels would stun Western New England 2-1 from Suprenant Field.
Inside the Lines:
- Roger Leland would score the lone goal for the Golden Bears on Saturday afternoon. Leland received a throw in that he was able to tuck into the bottom right corner of the net to give the Golden Bears hope late in the game. WNE was unable to score after the Leland tally.
- GK Brady Allen came away with four saves in both halves, marking eight total saves in the game on ten shots on goal by Curry. GK Kyle Tremblay made six saves on seven shots on goal for the Golden Bears, preserving the first CCC win of the season for Curry.
- WNE came away with just three corner kicks in the contest, while their defense held the Colonels to four on the afternoon.
- The Golden Bears drop a contest to Curry College for the first time since October 24, 2014, when Curry defeated Western New England 2-0 from Suprenant Field.
