Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. (September 18, 2021) – Western New England's field hockey team opened CCC play today on the road at Roger Williams and made a statement with a 6-0 victory.

How It Happened:
The Golden Bears scored early and scored often in today's game. The first goal came at the 7:28 mark of the game where Sarah Johnston found the back of the net from a pass by Ali Larochelle. Under a minute later the Golden Bears secured a penalty corner. Ali Martin capitalized for the Golden Bears finding the boards off a rebound to earn a 2-0 lead for Western New England after the first quarter.
The Golden Bears scored again in the second quarter in the 24th minute of the game when Johnston connected for the second time in the game. Roger Williams stepped up their defensive game the remainder of the half to head into halftime down 3-0 to the Golden Bears.
Just over two minutes into the third quarter, Johnston struck again from Carly Anna-Barba to extend the Golden Bears' lead to 4-0. In the 38th minute, Johnston rifled another shot at the goalkeeper that rebounded for Anna-Barba to pick up and redirect into the cage to tally another goal for Western New England. Larochelle assisted in the final goal scored by Johnston for the Golden Bears in the fourth quarter to earn Western New England the 6-0 conference win to start conference play 1-0.

- Zoey Wexler earned the win for the Golden Bears with two saves.
- Johnston tallied four goals in the game for a career-high as a rookie while Martin and Anna-Barba both scored goals.
- The Golden Bears outshot Roger Williams 22-6 in the game and had nine penalty corners to the Hawks' one.
