Women's Ice Hockey Drops Regular Season Finale with Suffolk

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. (January 15, 2022) – The Western New England women's ice hockey team dropped their final game of the regular season on Saturday night against the Suffolk University Rams by a score of 5-0. The Rams defeated the Golden Bears on both nights of a back to back after WNE took the first game earlier this season.

Records:

  • Western New England: 5-9-2 (3-6 CCC)
  • Suffolk University: 11-2 (6-1 CCC)

How it Happened:

As they did from the Olympia Ice Center on Friday night, neither team was able to tally a goal through the first 20 minutes of play. Sierra Dennis, who made her 5th consecutive start on Saturday, stopped all 12 shots on goal by the Rams. WNE took ten first period shots, none getting by Julia McLellan, the starter for Suffolk.

Suffolk was able to break the ice on the powerplay in the second period when Shana Cote scored for the Rams to go up 1-0. Jesse Kennedy and Sam Molind would notch assists for the Rams. Suffolk would control much of the play in the second period, putting up 16 shots on goal. Allison Walker and Katie Cronin would attempt two of the seven shots on goal for the Golden Bears in the period, though neither were able to tally. Suffolk's Cote was able to find twine again at the end of the second period to put Suffolk ahead 2-0 through 40 minutes of play.

The Golden Bears would have no answers for the Rams offense as the Rams would come through with three third period goals to down the Golden Bears by a final score of 5-0. Shana Cote would score three in the contest, while Dennis made 45 saves in the game.
