Women's Lacrosse Breezes By Curry, Win Fifth Straight

MILTON, Mass. (March 30, 2022) – The Western New England women's lacrosse team had no problems getting passed the hosting Colonels of Curry College on Wednesday night, picking up a 17-4 victory over the Colonels, winning their fifth straight game of the season and coming away with their second straight CCC win. 

Records:

  • Western New England: 7-2, 2-0 CCC
  • Curry College: 1-8, 0-2 CCC

How it Happened:

The Golden Bears registered the first ten goals of the game in the first 18 minutes of contest, putting the Colonels away early. Reilly Miller netted her first of the afternoon on an assist from Hannah Jarvis to give WNE a 1-0 lead. Kylie Buchanan would score the Golden Bears second goal of the game at the 9:43 mark of the first quarter, The Golden Bears continued to pile it on in the quarter as Liz Mazza and Ally Ferraro would score for the Golden Bears, ending the quarter with a 6-0 lead that favored the Golden Bears. Faith Graveline made two saves in the open quarter, allowing zero goals. WNE took 13 shots to Curry's five in the opening 15 minutes. 

The Golden Bears continues their dominance on the field, picking up the next four goals on the night. Ferraro, Miller, Arias, and Jarvis all scored goals for Western New England in the quarter, which saw the Golden Bears lead 10-0 with still 12 minutes to play. Curry would tighten their defense and come away with their first goal of the game with 9:22 remaining when Grayson Goolgasian netted Curry's first tally. Neither team would score in the final nine minutes of the contest, ending the first half with the Golden Bears leading 10-1. WNE outshot Curry 28-11 in the first half. 

More of the same came about in the third quarter for the Golden Bears as Ferraro, Miller, Arias, and Jarvisall tallied goals to give Western New England a 15-1 lead. Curry would score with just 15 seconds remaining in the quarter as the Golden Bears led 15-2 at the end of the third quarter. WNE was in total control of the quarter, shooting 11 times to Curry's two. 

WNE would close out the fourth quarter with two goals as Mlller and Mariella Biceglia would score goals for Western New England to end the contest with a victory. Curry would score twice in the fourth as Western New England would come away with a 17-4 victory on Wednesday night. 

Inside the Arc:

  • Reilly Miller scored four goals for Western New England, as did Ally Ferraro, who also tacked on two assists in the win. 
  • WNE shot 46 times towards goal, shooting 31 times on goals. The Golden Bears scooped 25 ground balls and caused five turnovers in the win. 
  • Faith Graveline made five saves and allowed just two goals for WNE, improving to 7-2 on the season. Riley Franzo and Emily Lake saw action on the night, with Lake making six saves in the fourth quarter. 
  • Curry was successful on 7-13 clears. Sharon Doherty scored twice for the Colonels in the loss.
