SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 14, 2023) – The Western New England field hockey team honored their three seniors prior to today's CCC game against the Bison of Nichols College, as
Olivia Eastman,
Emma Karamian, and
Carly-Anna Barba were recognized before a 6-0 score at Golden Bear Stadium.

How it Happened:
Western New England needed all of two minutes and ten seconds to get on the board when
Haley Kaczka opened the scoring for the Golden Bears on an assist from
Olyvia Whyte, giving Western New England a 1-0 lead. The Golden Bears would score just one goal in the opening 15 minutes of play, though they outshot the Bison 8-0. Bison goalkeeper Sophia Venable made five saves in the opening 15 minutes.
The Golden Bears came away with two goals in the second frame, with
Haley Kaczka scoring again for Western New England, notching her tenth goal of the season and fifth goal on a penalty stroke, giving the Blue and Gold the 2-0 lead. Western New England would continue their offensive dominance, as the pace of play would be controlled by the blue and gold in the contest. Western New England would get on the board again in the second quarter after
Haley Kaczka would send a pass to
Amanda Burns, who tucked away her second goal of the season, giving the Golden Bears a 3-0 lead. Following the WNE goal, Nichols came away with their best chance at goal, inserting a penalty corner, and Merle Steinau would come away with the lone shot of the game for the Bison, a shot that would be blocked by the WNE defense, keeping Nichols off the scoreboard.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the third quarter, with Western New England again outshooting the Nichols College Bison 8-0. Sophia Venable came away with six saves in the quarter to keep Western New England at bay.
Western New England grabbed a goal to open the fourth quarter just 47 seconds into the frame when
Haley Kaczka found the back of the net again for the Golden Bears, her 11
th goal of the season.
Kaczka comes away with her first career hat trick for the Golden Bears. The sophomore midfielder was not done there, grabbing her fourth goal of the night and Western New England's fifth overall of the afternoon, giving the Blue and Gold a 5-0 lead. The Golden Bears would wrap up the game with one final goal with 45 seconds to play when
Taya Buntin netted her third goal of the season on a shot right inside the slot, giving WNE a 6-0 lead, a lead they held for the remainder of the contest, taking a 6-0 win over Nichols in CCC play.

- Haley Kaczka scored her ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth goals of the season in the win, scoring four total goals in the game.
