Women’s Swimming Taken Down by RIC 133-92

Providence, R.I. (November 11, 2023) – Women's Swimming traveled to Providence, Rhode Island, for a dual meet with Rhode Island College. After a tough meet, RIC would beat WNE by a score of 133-92.

How it Happened:

WNE and RIC got the meet started with the 200-yard Medley Relay. WNE's relay team of Caitlin Guntley, Caitlin Hall, Olivia Emanuel, and Megan Morrissey finished in second place with a time of 2:09.12. Morrissey then swam in and won the 1000-yard Freestyle race with a season-best time of 13:31.03. Gianna Calabrese was the next Golden Bear to swim. Calabrese raced in the 200-yard Freestyle race and finished in second place with a time of 2:40.12. After that race, the 50-yard backstroke saw Hannah Delude get third place with a time of 52.96. Event five was the 50-yard Breaststroke. Gianna Calabrese earned second place with a time of 44.39. After that race, Olivia Emanuel would win the 100-yard Butterfly race with a time of 1:09.79. Caitlin Hall and Hannah Delude were in the pool next for the 50-yard Freestyle. Hall finished in first place with a time of 28.11, and Delude finished in fourth place with a season-best time of 40.74. The 100-yard Freestyle was the 8th event of the meet. Megan Morrissey swam the event and finished in second place with a time of 1:03.87. Caitlin Guntley would swim the 100-yard Backstroke after and earn a time of 1:09.26. That race resulted in another Golden Bears win. Caitlin Hall would finish third in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:26.71. 

The 500-yard Freestyle race was the next event. Olivia Emanuel and Gianna Calabrese swam for the Golden Bears. Emanuel finished in first place, with a time of 6:14.30. Calabrese finished in third with a season-best time of 7:13.10. After the 50-yard Butterfly did not have a WNE swimmer in it, the Golden Bears swam in the 100-yard IM. Caitlin Guntley would get first place in the event with a time of 1:18.42. The meet ended with the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. The WNE relay team of Megan Morrissey, Caitlin Hall, Olivia Emanuel, and Caitlin Guntley finished first in that race with a time of 1:58.20. That would end the meet, and RIC would defeat WNE by a score of 133-92.

The Golden Bears will return to campus to host Eastern Connecticut State University and Plymouth State University. That meet will be on Saturday, November 18, at 4:00 PM.
