Panthers and Warriors Edge Golden Bears in Double-Dual Meet

Springfield, Mass. (November 18, 2023) – Women's Swimming hosted Plymouth State University and Eastern Connecticut State University for a double-dual meet on Senior Day. The Golden Bears lost to Eastern Connecticut State by a score of 187-67 and lost to Plymouth State 125-121.

How it Happened:

The meet started with the 400-yard Medley Relay. WNE's team of Caitlin Guntly, Caitlin Hall, Olivia Emanuele, and Megan Morrissey got third place. The 1000-yard Freestyle was next, and Morrissey would get fourth place with a season-best time of 13:34.07. That was a best time by over 15 seconds. Next was the 200-yard Freestyle. Alexa Adams and Gianna Calabrese placed fifth and sixth in the race. Adams swam a time of 2:24.17, and Calabrese swam a time of 2:38.53. Caitlin Guntly would swim the following race, the 50-yard Backstroke, and win it with a season-best time of 29.30. It was a best time by 0.31 and was also a WNE 50-yard Backstroke record! The 50-yard breaststroke was next. Gianna Calabrese placed fifth with a season-best time of 42.27, which beat Calabrese's previous best time by 1.37. After the breaststroke was the 100-yard Butterfly. Olivia Emanuele grabbed second place in that event. Emanuele finished with a time of 1:09.32. Next was the 50-yard Freestyle. Alexa Adams and Hannah Delude got fourth and seventh in the race, respectively. Adams got a time of 29.17. Delude got a time of 39.53. The 100-yard Freestyle would see Caitlin Hall get first place. Hall finished with a time of 1:00.34. The 100-yard Backstroke followed. Caitlin Guntly won the event with a time of 1:03.29. Then, it was Gianna Calabrese who swam the 100-yard Breaststroke race. Calabrese finished with a time of 1:33.43.

Olivia Emanuele and Megan Morrissey were the next swimmers in the water for the Golden Bears. They swam the 500-yard Freestyle race. Emanuele got third place for the Golden Bears with a season-best time of 6:04.62, which was 2.27 faster than Emanuele's previous best time. Morrissey got sixth place with a time of 6:25.41. After the 500-yard Freestyle was the 50-yard Butterfly. Caitlin Hall and Alexa Adams swam the race for the Golden Bears and finished in third and sixth place, respectively. Hall finished with a season-best time of 30.48, 0.16 faster than the previous best time. Adams finished with a time of 31.93. The 100-yard IM was the final individual race of the meet. Caitlin Guntly won the race for the Golden Bears. Guntly finished with a time of 1:06.70. The final race of the meet was the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. WNE's team of Caitlin Hall, Alexa Adams, Olivia Emanuele, and Megan Morrissey grabbed a second-place finish. The meet ended with the Warriors beating the Golden Bears 187-67 and the Panthers beating the Golden Bears 125-121.

The Golden Bears will head to Bridgewater, Massachusetts, for their next meet. That meet will be the Bridgewater State Invitational on Saturday, December 2. The meet will start at 11:00 AM.
