SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 9, 2024) – After a CCC win on Saturday against Curry College, the Golden Bears hosted Roger Williams University on Tuesday night. The Golden Bears got out to a 7-4 lead after the first quarter. However, the Hawks would outscore the Golden Bears 5-4 in the second, and it was 11-9 after the first half of play. The Golden Bears would turn it around and shut out the Hawks in the third quarter, scoring six goals to be up 17-9 after three quarters. The Golden Bears would score four in the fourth and win the game 21-12.
Dylan Hanley led the Golden Bears with seven points. Hanley had three goals and four assists. Randall made eight saves to earn the win.

How it Happened:
The game got started with
Carter Randall and Aaron D'Aversa in goal for the Golden Bears and Hawks, respectively.
Dylan Hanley got the Golden Bears on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal 1:08 into the game. That was followed 1:07 later by Hanley scoring again. The Golden Bears led 2-0. After a save from each goalie, the Golden Bears got goal number three.
Michael Knapp found
Jack Houlden for the goal. The Golden Bears would then get a man-up opportunity but could not capitalize. Almost a minute and a half later,
Thomas Labbe notched the fourth goal for WNE. The Hawks called a timeout after the goal. The Hawks would then get the offense going. Matt Hemmert scored a goal with 6:55 left in the first on an assist from Brian Gazard. Then, Gazard found Hemmert for their second goal with 4:16 remaining. However, almost a minute later,
Joseph Bussinelli ended the run with a goal. Kevin Murphy answered with a Hawk goal with 2:56 left. Brian Gazard made it two goals in a row with 2:08 left, and the score was 5-4.
Zachary Mein and
Chris Catuosco scored seven seconds apart after that to extend the lead to 7-4. That is how the first ended. Shots were in favor of RWU 13-12. Saves were in favor of the Golden Bears 4-2, faceoffs won were in favor of the Golden Bears 7-5, and ground balls were in favor of the Golden Bears 13-11.
The second quarter started with the Golden Bears on the man-up opportunity. The Golden Bears could not capitalize; however,
Thomas Labbe found
Jacob Roy for a goal 1:13 into the second. Kevin Murphy answered a couple minutes later. Brian Gazard assisted the goal. Murphy would score again with 9:35 left in the half on a pass from Jack Kester. The Golden Bears' lead was cut to 8-6.
Thomas Labbe would score a second goal to extend the lead back to 9-6. Then,
Max Rudgers and
Chris Catuosco scored eleven seconds apart to push the lead to 11-6 with 5:26 remaining in the first half. Less than a minute later, Riley Spellman got a pass from Matt Hemmert and scored. Then, with 3:12 remaining in the second quarter, Kevin Murphy scored an unassisted goal. The Golden Bears led 11-8. The final goal of the half came with 1:38 remaining in the second. Kyle Zirn found Matt Hemmert for the goal. The score was 11-9. The Hawks led in shots 25-21 at half. The Golden Bears had more saves, 6-5, faceoffs won 13-8, and ground balls 23-20.
The third quarter saw
Nicholas Campagnone score 2:44 into the quarter, and
Dylan Hanley assisted the goal. Then, thirty-four seconds later,
James Wrynn found the net for a goal assisted by
Joseph Bussinelli. After back-and-forth action for much of the third quarter,
Dylan Hanley found
Max Rudgers, who scored with 6:26 remaining in the quarter to give the Golden Bears a 14-9 lead. Twenty-two seconds later,
David Noel scored an unassisted goal for the Golden Bears. Forty-eight seconds after that,
Brian Madden found
Jacob Roy for a goal. The Golden Bears now had a commanding 16-9 lead. After more back-and-forth action ensued,
Dylan Hanley found
Jacob Roy, and the score was 17-9 after three-quarters of play. The Golden Bears led in shots 13-5, faceoffs won 5-2, and ground balls 14-6. The Hawks led 3-2 in saves.
The fourth quarter started with a Kevin Murphy goal for the Hawks, thirty-two seconds into the quarter. That was answered thirty-six seconds later by
Nicholas Campagnone getting a pass from
Brian Madden and finding the back of the net. Campagnone scored again with 10:21 remaining in the game. The score was now 19-10 in favor of the Golden Bears. Forty seconds later, Matt Hemmert notched another goal after receiving a pass from Kevin Murphy. That made the score 19-11.
Jack Houlden would answer with a goal off the assist from
Dylan Hanley; the score was 20-11. Max Kimmel then entered as the goalie for the Hawks. With 5:02 left in the game. Matt Hemmert scored the final goal for the Hawks.
Dylan Hanley answered that goal with one for the Golden Bears with 1:05 remaining in the game.
David Noel was credited with the assist. That was the final goal of the game, and the Golden Bears won 21-12. The final stats showed the Golden Bears lead in shots 46-38, faceoff wins 22-13, and ground balls 45-33. The Hawks led in saves 10-8.
