Corey Lomas Returns as Women’s Swimming Head Coach

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (July 31, 2024) – Western New England Director of Athletics and Recreation Jenn Kolins has announced the rehiring of Corey Lomas as the Head Coach of the WNE women's swimming team.

Lomas returns as head coach after taking over the women's swimming program in 2021. Lomas was the head coach for two seasons, taking the Golden Bears to new heights in the pool.

"Corey's experience and dedication to the overall development of his student-athletes both in and out of the pool is a true asset to the WNE swim program," said Kolins. "He has guided swimmers to regional and national success, and his energy and vision for the team here at WNE will help to propel them to be a force in the conference and beyond."

Lomas led the Golden Bears to two Little East Conference (LEC) Championship appearances in 2021–2022 and 2022–2023, improving their finish in both seasons. Lomas also helped guide WNE women's swimming to their first ever LEC major award, seeing Amanda Robinson win Rookie of the Year in 2022-2023 under the guide of Lomas. After a 2-4 dual match record in 2021–2022, Lomas led the Golden Bears to six victories in nine dual matches in 2022–2023. Western New England also finished in sixth place, their best finish in program history, at the LEC Championships, with Lomas at the helm of the program in his second season.

Prior to joining the Western New England women's swimming program, Lomas was heavily involved in USA Swimming as well as swimming across Western Massachusetts. With USA Swimming, Lomas was awarded the 2018-2019 New England Coach of the Year. Lomas also made stops at Minnechaug High School as the Head Diving Coach and Assistant Swimming Coach, as well as Ludlow High School as the Head Swimming Coach. Lomas took over the program at Ludlow High School, which saw nine school records broken and league titles won on both the boy's and girl's sides.

"I am honored and grateful to be back as the Head Coach of this growing team," said Lomas. "Continuing my work, I will strive to create not just a great program with great athletes but a welcoming family atmosphere with well-rounded adults, creating the leaders and accomplished citizens of tomorrow. The Golden Bear Women's Swim Team will rise and leave a lasting impression for years to come."

Lomas is a native of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, and is a graduate of SUNY New Paltz of the class of 2013.
