Ritson’s Heroics Hand Gordon First Conference Loss of the Season; WNE Wins 2-1

WENHAM, Mass. (October 11, 2025) – WNE took on Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts, on Saturday. WNE took an early lead thanks to Cole Casinghino's header shot in the 8th minute. Then, after a Gordon equalizer in the second half, Lucas Ritson came in clutch for WNE, with a bicycle kick goal to lift WNE over Gordon for the 2-1 win.

  • Gordon College: 7-4-2 (4-1-0)

How it Happened:

First Half

  • The teams started Braylon Casinghino and Riley Calemmo in goal for WNE and Gordon.
  • WNE would get the contest started quickly. Jayden Montagna had the first shot of the game in the fourth minute.
  • Then, in the eighth minute, Tyler Lewis would throw the ball in, lofting it over everyone. Cole Casinghino would rise above his counterparts to send a header shot into the back of the goal. WNE led 1-0 early in the game.
  • The teams would trade possession back and forth before Cole Casinghino had the next shot. However, it would be blocked.
  • That shot got the action going again between the teams. They started to trade shots.
  • There was not a shot on goal until the 36th minute, when Jack Leland went for goal, but Calemmo made the save.
  • That was the final major chance of the first half. WNE led 1-0 at the halftime break.
  • The first half stats showed WNE leading in shots (7-1), shots on goal (2-0), and fouls (7-1). Neither team had a corner kick, and Gordon made more saves, 1-0.

Second Half:

  • The second half saw WNE send pressure at the Fighting Scots.
  • They had two corners, with the second leading to a Ben Riley striking the post. Jayden Montagna then had a shot saved two minutes later.
  • WNE had all the momentum until Cortez Cardone found the lower-left corner of the goal after an assist from Cody Dill. The game was tied 1-1 in the 56th minute.
  • WNE answered with intensity. They had two shots after that goal. Riley had a shot saved, and Casinghino would send a shot wide.
  • Neither team would get another shot for fifteen minutes. Gordon had the next shot after WNE's two after the goal.
  • Then, Lucas Ritson answered with his first career Golden Bear goal! After a shot from Leland was saved, Lucas Ritson would send a bicycle kick off the left post and into the goal. WNE had the 2-1 lead in the 79th minute.
  • Gordon would send pressure at WNE, with a shot, but they could not find the equalizing goal.
  • WNE's defense would hold, and WNE won, 2-1.

Inside the Lines:

  • WNE defeated Gordon by a score of 2-1 on Saturday
  • Cole Casinghino found the back of the net with a header shot after a Tyler Lewis throw-in during the eighth minute of the contest. WNE led 1-0.
  • Cortez Cardone equalized for Gordon in the 56th minute off an assist from Cody Dill. The game was tied 1-1.
  • Lucas Ritson scored his first career Golden Bear goal via a bicycle kick in the 79th minute. Jack Leland had the assist, and WNE led 2-1.
