SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 14, 2025) – The Golden Bears hosted the Gulls for a midweek conference clash between 4-2 conference teams. The Golden Bears meant business from the get-go on Tuesday. They ran past the Gulls in the first and second halves to grab a much-needed 1-0 victory over Endicott College, thanks to Tyler Lewis' goal.
Records:
- Western New England: 6-7-1 (5-2-0)
- Endicott College: 6-5-2 (4-3-0)
How it Happened:
First Half
- Braylon Casinghino got the start in goal for WNE, while Ethan Harrison opposed Casinghino in goal for the Gulls.
- From the first whistle, WNE sent pressure at the Gulls with shot after shot and corner kick after corner kick.
- Endicott would try to swing the momentum back in their favor after the opening thirteen minutes were all WNE.
- WNE would not let up. They kept finding runs down the field and sending shots just over and/or just past the goal.
- WNE had ten shots in the first half before Endicott had a shot go over the WNE goal in the 42nd minute.
- Nigel Martin and Jake Thibodeau had shots saved by Harrison during those ten shots.
- Brady Suomala followed the Endicott shot with another WNE shot on goal. Harrison saved that one, too.
- After a WNE shot got blocked in the 45th minute, the teams went to halftime stuck at zero. However, WNE had more chances in that first half.
- The Golden Bears had more shots, 13-1, shots on goal, 3-0, corner kicks, 5-0, and fouls, 6-3. Endicott had more saves, 4-1.
Second Half:
- WNE had the same fire in the first half, in the second. They had a hunger in their eyes to get that first goal after Endicott had their lone chance of the game in the 47th minute with a Matt Misiaszek shot saved by Casinghino.
- WNE kept playing the ball forward and had a shot from Cole Casinghino glance off the left post.
- The ball was then kicked out for a WNE corner kick, where Owen Dieterle served the ball on a platter to Tyler Lewis, who, with some fancy footwork, deflected the ball into the center of the net for the lead. WNE led 1-0 in the 55th minute.
- WNE kept their foot on the pedal. Owen Dieterle had a shot saved by Harrison before Ben Riley fired a shot off the left post, as well.
- WNE followed that with five more shots, but none of them found the goal.
- As the second half wore on, WNE seemed to get faster. They kept sending guys forward and had a shot slide wide right of the goal.
- WNE would not allow another shot after that first one of the second half and would hold on to a hard-fought 1-0 win at home versus Endicott College.
Inside the Lines:
- WNE battled to a 1-0 win versus Endicott College on Tuesday.
- WNE had twelve more shots than Endicott in the first half and five more corner kicks.
- WNE got the breakthrough goal in the 55th minute. Tyler Lewis scored off an Owen Dieterle corner kick assist. WNE led 1-0.

Coach's Corner:
Head coach Devin O'Neill gave the Sports Information Department a comment after the team's big win versus Endicott College on Tuesday. "A really, really good performance throughout the team, both sides of the ball. I thought it was the best game of the year for us. Very impressed with our play. Big win for us," O'Neill stated.
Tyler Lewis also spoke after the game. He was asked to speak more about what he saw on the corner, which led to the difference-making goal. "We knew that corner play was good. It almost worked twice in the first half, so in the locker room, we were talking about running it again. I was just at the goalie, and it just hit me and went in. Owen put a great ball in, and that's it," Lewis mentioned. Lewis was then asked what the win means for him and the team. "It's huge. This team is always good. They beat us 3-0 last year. We knew the meaning behind this game. It's a big win."
Owen Dieterle was also asked to speak after the win, after having that decisive corner kick. Dieterle was asked to explain what he was seeing before the play. "Like Tyler said, we had already run that play a couple of times. Like I have said in the past, we work on set-pieces a lot in practice. Our coach called out the play, I crossed it in, and Tyler finished it off," Dieterle said. Then, when asked about losing a captain early in the game due to injury (Jayden Montagna) and what the message was around the team, Dieterle stated, "It was obviously horrible to see. Jayden's the heart of our team, I would say. He's a huge leader, so in the locker room, other guys stepped up and said we had to play for him, and that's what we did."
