  • University of New England: 11-9, 4-3 CNE
How it Happened:

First Set:
  • An ace from UNE opened the match, but Léa Barber returned to action on Saturday and got WNE on the scoreboard with a kill, while Charlei Henkel tied the match at four, followed by a kill from Rachel Critz, giving the blue and gold a 5-4 lead. The Nor'easters had the next three in a row and six out of the next seven points overall to take a 10-6 lead.
  • UNE continued to score through the midway point of the match, forcing Western New England to take a timeout at 13-7. WNE responded with seven of the next ten points to get back within two points, 16-14. Barber collected three kills while Morgan Bonin and Leah Warren dropped in kills for the Golden Bears. WNE roared all the way back to tie the match at 18 following a service ace from Abby Thomas, forcing a Nor'easter timeout.
  • UNE responded with six of the next eight points coming out of the timeout and led 24-20. Western New England picked up the next three to force another UNE timeout, but the Nor'easters were able to drop in the final set point, taking the opening set, 25-23. UNE had 18 kills in the opening set, hitting .300 overall. Western New England hit .270 from the floor, grabbing 12 kills.
Second Set:
  • Morgan Bonin and Adrionne Sharp opened up the set with a block for the Golden Bears before UNE rattled off the next six points, which forced a quick timeout from WNE. UNE continued to score in bunches, taking an early 12-6 lead in the set following a service ace from Kelsey Bradshaw.
  • Léa Barber notched a kill while Laney Melvin picked up an ace, slowly bringing WNE back into the set, trailing 16-12. From there, UNE picked up six of the next seven points, taking a big lead over the Golden Bears, leading 22-13. With Western New England attacking and picking up the next three points, UNE called a timeout, but picked up the final two points of the set to take a 2-0 lead in the match, defeating WNE 25-16.
  • Western New England picked up just seven kills for the set and hit .074 overall. UNE continued to be strong on offense, dropping 12 kills and hitting .267.
Third Set:
  • The Golden Bears had the first two points of the opening set as Charlei Henkel put down a kill for the blue and gold. The University of New England continued to push WNE to the brink, but the Golden Bears responded in the third set. After UNE took a 6-5 lead, seven of the next nine points belonged to the Golden Bears, who saw production from Henkel and Léa Barber, taking a 12-8 lead, again forcing a timeout.
  • WNE maintained its lead heading down the stretch in the third set. Henkel and Barber combined for ten kills before the set had come to a close as the Golden Bears stayed on the gas, leading 21-15.
  • UNE didn't go away easily in the third set, ripping off the next four points in the set to get back within two, 21-19. Off a WNE timeout, UNE and WNE split a kill, keeping the Golden Bears ahead by two, but the next three points of the set belonged to the Nor'easters, coming all the way back on the Golden Bears to take a 23-22 lead. The Golden Bears fought past a UNE match point as Morgan Bonin picked up a kill, while the next point belonged to WNE as Barber picked up an ace, as WNE needed one point to send the match to a fourth set. The two teams continued to split points as the set went into overtime before UNE came all the way back to defeat WNE, 29-27, and take the match 3-0.
