Box Score CASTINE, Maine (November 8, 2025) - The Western New England football team put on an offensive show on Saturday afternoon at Ritchie Field at Maine Maritime Academy, coming away with 49 first-half points to easily put away the hosting Mariners, coming away with a 70-7 victory.

Records:
  • Western New England: 5-4, 3-3 CNE
  • Maine Maritime Academy: 0-9, 0-6 CNE
How it Happened:

First Quarter:
  • The Mariners opened the game with the first offensive drive, which lasted just three plays and -2 yards as the Golden Bears allowed nothing to the struggling MMA offense. The first possession for the Golden Bears needed just two plays as Paul Gorry found De'Andre Harris for a 20-yard reception while Jordan Moran pulled off trickery, sending a 56-yard touchdown pass to De'Andre Harris, giving the Golden Bears a 7-0 lead following the extra point made from Max LoGrasso. MMA had no response to WNE's touchdown, going three-and-out again, handing the ball back to WNE, who scored in seven plays, gaining 61 yards, capped off by a 15-yard touchdown pass from Gorry to James Burg, giving the Golden Bears a 14-0 lead.
  • Western New England virtually put the game away in the opening quarter, scoring again on their third offensive drive of the game as MMA had no answers for the Golden Bears offense in the frame as a three-play, 31-yard score saw Moran enter the end zone for the second time on Saturday, this time, a four-yard score, giving the blue and gold a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • Paul Gorry threw for 212 yards in the opening frame, going a perfect 13/13 overall.
Second Quarter:
  • WNE continued to take it to the Mariners, needing just one play in the second quarter to cap off a five-play, 59-yard drive that began in the first frame, seeing Kevin Acosta catch a 14-yard pass to give the Golden Bears a 28-0 lead. Western New England continued to stay dominant on the defensive end, led by Maurice Henlon, Henry Rodrigues, and Nathaniel Mathis. MMA went for a fourth-down conversion on its first offensive drive of the second quarter and failed, setting up the Golden Bears for another score, needing just 31 yards to score. John De Camps had his first touchdown reception of the afternoon, moving the score to 35-0 in favor of WNE.
  • The Golden Bears scored on every drive in the opening half, as Matt LaMontagne rushed for a score, his seventh game this season with at least one touchdown, giving WNE a 42-0 lead. MMA fans had a chance to cheer as Auston Harris brought back the first score of the game for the hosts, going 75 yards to score the first TD of the game for the Mariners, who then trailed 42-7. Western New England responded to gain back its 42-point lead at the half with a Matthew McGuire one-yard score as the Golden Bears led 49-7 at the break.
  • The Golden Bears recorded 163 yards of offense in the second quarter, 101 through the air and 62 on the ground. MMA's big rush was one of two first downs for the home team in the quarter.
Third Quarter:
  • Western New England had the ball to open the third quarter and continued to score, picking up their eighth touchdown on eight possessions, as LaMontagne scored his second touchdown of the game, giving the Golden Bears a 56-7 lead. LaMontagne paced the Golden Bears on the drive with 72 of the 84 yards gained. The Mariners then picked up their best opportunity at scoring another touchdown following a punt that was fumbled by WNE and recovered by MMA, giving the Mariners the ball back, but the drive was capped off by a Johnny Ferrentino interception, handing the ball right back to the blue and gold.
  • The final offensive drive for the Golden Bears ended in another touchdown for Matthew McGuire as the WNE run game came to life on the drive, with McGuire picking up 51 yards in total on the drive to give Western New England a 63-7 lead.
  • The Golden Bears ran 12 plays for 151 yards in the quarter while MMA had its best quarter of the game so far, coming up with nine plays and 82 yards of offense, 55 on the ground and 27 through the air.
Fourth Quarter:
  • Logan Watts stuffed MMA on a fourth down chance at the WNE 33-yard line with a sack of his own while Western New England went 10/10 on scoring drives following as Jason Pratt got the call and rushed for 59 yards over three plays, capping off the drive with a five-yard touchdown to give Western New England a massive 70-7 lead with ten minutes to play in the quarter.
  • Western New England's defense stayed strong on the next MMA drive as Anthony Silva, Sean DuTremble, Gavin Russo, and Brayden Bunnell all contributed tackles that forced a punt from MMA, which ended up being the last offensive possession of the game for the Mariners. Western New England controlled the final seven minutes of the game and took a knee to end the game with a 70-7 victory over Maine Maritime.
