Gerard, Mrzywka Headline CNE Women’s Ice Hockey Weekly Awards

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (December 8, 2025) – Two members of the Western New England women's ice hockey team came away with weekly honors from the Conference of New England (CNE) this week, with Mabel Gerard being named the CNE Player of the Week while Mikayla Mrzywka picks up CNE Rookie of the Week honors following a pair of victories over the weekend over Nichols College.

Gerard impressed on the ice for the Golden Bears, scoring two goals and adding a pair of assists in two wins over Nichols College. Gerard opened the weekend with a goal and two assists, good for three points, taking five shots, and scoring the eventual game-winning goal in a 4-0 win for the Blue and Gold. Gerard also blocked a shot and won 12 of 22 faceoffs in the win. Gerard added one more goal in a 5-1 win over Nichols on home ice, scoring in the final second of the first period to quickly put the game away. Gerard also blocked a shot and won six more faceoffs to help WNE sweep the Bison over the weekend. Gerard now has five goals and six assists, tying a team-high with 11 points on the year. 

Mrzywka opened the weekend with a pair of goals in Friday night's win against Nichols, taking six shots overall and blocking one shot for the Golden Bears. Mryzwka came up with another goal on Saturday night, taking eight shots overall, ending the weekend with three goals and three points while taking 14 shots overall. Mrzywka now has four goals and three assists on the season, collecting seven points overall.  

The Western New England women's ice hockey team enters the holiday break with a 7-4-0 record and 5-3-0 mark in CNE play. The Golden Bears get back on the ice on Thursday, January 8 at 7:00 PM, traveling a short distance to Amherst College. WNE's next home game is on Saturday, January 10, at 5:10 PM, hosting SUNY Oswego.
