SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (December 9, 2025) – Western New England women's basketball's Sophie Hedge has been named to the New England Women's Basketball Association's (NEWBA) Weekly Honors list, being named to this week's Second Team of the Week. 

Hedge recorded three games of 15 points or better last week in wins over the University of Hartford, Elms College, and Westfield State University.  Hedge opened the week with a career-high 24 points on 9/15 shooting, picking up six rebounds and a steal in a Conference of New England victory over Hartford. The success continued for Hedge, who dropped 15 points in 14 minutes of action over Elms College, shooting near-perfect from the field, going 5/6, including 3/3 from beyond the arc, picking up three rebounds and an assist for the Golden Bears in the over 40-point victory. To close out the week, Hedge recorded another 15 points on 6/11 shooting, notching eight rebounds, three assists, and a steal in a 37-point win over Westfield. 

Hedge has started in ten games this season, averaging just over 26 minutes per game, shooting 39% from the field. Hedge has picked up 74 rebounds, 18 assists, six steals, and two blocks on the year, and has averaged 14.1 points per game, collecting double-figures in scoring in all but one game on the year. 

The Western New England women's basketball team returns to play following the winter break, traveling to Gordon College on Saturday, January 3, for a Conference of New England contest.
