How it Happened (vs. North Park University):

Jacob Hobart made the start for Western New England on Wednesday morning, coming up with an easy 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first, setting the Vikings of North Park University down in order. Andrew Florek led off the bottom of the first inning with a double while Ryan Montini would come up with a single two batters late, putting runners on second and third with just one out in the inning. Jack Loftus would be plunked with a pitch for the fifth time already this season, loading the bases. Western New England would not score, however, as Alex Grenier would hit a rope to second past as the Vikings' second baseman would come up with the stab while throwing Loftus out at first base, ending the inning still tied at zero. Another clean inning was produced by Hobart while Trey Young recorded the lone hit of the second inning for the Golden Bears, a line drive single to left field, but WNE would leave their third runner on base through two innings, keeping the scoring tied after two.

Both teams produced hits in the third and fourth innings, respectively, but would not be able to score. Hobart gave up a single in the top of the fourth inning but quickly set down the next North Park batter, getting a 4-6-3 double play, ending the inning. WNE's Alex Grenier continued to make solid contact with the ball and would be rewarded with a single to start the bottom of the fourth but Western New England would again not be able to score as the score remained at zero after four innings of play. Western New England would finally crack Samuel Jackson, who made the start for North Park, in the bottom of the sixth inning as Jack Loftus nailed his second home run of the season, a solo shot, giving the Golden Bears a 1-0 lead, ending the morning start for Jackson. WNE would threaten for more in the bottom of the sixth but would leave two runners on base.

Hobart would continue to cruise through the North Park lineup, allowing just four hits through seven innings of work. WNE would reward Hobart with three insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh off one swing of the bat. John Bova would reach on a fielding error by the Vikings third baseman while Ryan Montini would double to right center field, putting runners on second and third with one out. After another pitching change made by North Park, Jack Loftus would smash his second home run of the game and third overall this season, giving the Golden Bears a 4-0 lead after seven innings. North Park would threaten in the top of the ninth with Hobart still on the hill for Western New England. The Vikings would pick up a walk and single to start the top of the ninth while an RBI ground out would push a run across with two outs in the inning, putting NPU on the board for the first time in the game. Hobart would get the final out of the game via strikeout, totaling five in the morning contest, sending Western New England to a 4-1 victory.

The Golden Bears would lead 4-2 after two innings of play.

Anna Maria's Brady Aylward came up with an RBI single to left field after the AMCATs picked up four hits in the bottom of the fourth but left the bases loaded after Wall would get a fly out to end the inning. The fly out would be the last out of the afternoon for the WNE sophomore, who lasted four innings, giving up eight hits and three earned runs while walking one and striking out five.

Cam Heeman came on in relief and picked up a strike out and a fielder's choice to end the inning, stranding three AMCAT's on the base paths. WNE would get the two runs back in the top of the sixth thanks to a miscue from the AMC defense. Back-to-back walks would be issued to start the sixth while a SAC bunt from Alex Grenier moved runners to second and third with just one out. Connor Cowern would pop a fly ball into center field that would be misplayed, scoring two runs, giving the Golden Bears an 8-5 lead. Heeman would find himself in another sticky situation in the bottom of the sixth inning, seeing runners on second and third with only one out but a strike out and fly out would get the WNE junior out of the inning unscathed, keeping an 8-5 lead for WNE.
