BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (April 6, 2025) – The Western New England men's golf team saw two of their own shoot five strokes over par on Sunday afternoon in the final day of the Trinity/Hartford Invitational where both
Derek Johnson and
Alex Noti shot identical scores to pace the Golden Bears overall in their first match of the spring.
How it Happened:
The Golden Bears began the day on the back nine where
Derek Johnson would par the first three holes of the course. Johnson would then bogey the next three of five holes to go three strokes over par, shooting even par on the 18
th hole to shoot a 39 on the back nine, the first of nine on the afternoon. Johnson would quickly fall behind on the first three holes of the front nine holes, picking up three straight bogeys. Johnson would bounce back in a back way however, picking up a par and a birdie on holes four and five before closing out the final four holes with pars to finish the front nine and final nine of the event. Johnson shot a 77 for the day, +5.
Alex Noti had a nearly identical day to Johnson but started off with three bogeys and a double bogey on the first nine holes of the day. Noti would come back with two big birdies on holes 14 and 18 to round the corner into the final stretch shooting just three over despite four big scores on the first nine. Noti notched seven pars on the final nine holes of the event, picking up bogeys on holes one and seven to finish two over par on the last nine, shooting 48 overall.
Jeremy Burke capped off the event with an 81 overall, going +9 on day two. Burke collected five bogeys and a double bogey on the first nine holes of the course to begin day two but stormed back to shoot five strokes less on the final nine holes on the day. Burke picked up bogeys on holes one and two on the final nine but picked up even pars on the final seven holes overall to also finish +2 for the final nine, shooting +9 overall for the day.
Rian Faiq avenged his day from a day ago and came up with an 83 for day two overall. Faiq shot a 40 on the first nine holes of the event, picking up five pars and four bogeys to collect a 40 overall. Faiq entered the final nine holes of the event with three pars, five bogeys and a double bogey to close out the day with an 83 overall, shooting 11 strokes over par.
Kyle Klimas closed out the event with an 87 for day two, picking up a 42 for the opening nine which featured five pars, two bogeys, and two double bogeys, coming up with a +6 for the beginning nine. Klimas would then finish off the final nine of the event with five pars, two bogeys, and two double bogeys to come up with a 45 for the last nine, scoring an 87 overall.
