SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (August 31, 2025) – The men's soccer program returned home to Suprenant Field after their 2-0 loss to MIT on Saturday for their home-opener versus Clark University. The first half saw a back-and-forth battle with saves on both sides. Ben Siegel would be the difference maker for Clark, as Siegel netted the game-winning goal in the 56th minute. Clark took the Sunday matchup 1-0.

How it Happened:
First Half:
- Ty Bevan and Diego Marin got the starts in goal for the Golden Bears and Cougars, respectively.
- The Cougars started the game with the majority of the possession and chances. They would have the best chance of the first half in the 34th minute when the Cougars' attack got past the WNE goalie, but Jack Leland got in position and made a great sliding save.
- The Golden Bears grew stronger throughout the first half and had a few chances at the end, with a couple of corner kicks in the final minutes, but could not convert.
- The first half ended without a goal. The stats showed WNE leading in shots 6-4, saves 3-1, and corner kicks 3-1. Clark led in shots on goal, 3-1, and fouls, 7-4.
Second Half:
- The Golden Bears opened the second half with an attacking mindset, but Clark regained possession quickly.
- Ben Siegel would give the Cougars the lead in the 56th minute thanks to Myles Nelson-Atkins throwing the ball to Luke Sheldon, which set up the crossing pass into the box. Sheldon sent a header shot into the bottom right corner of the goal, and Clark led 1-0.
- The teams traded shot opportunities after that. As the game went on, the Golden Bears built momentum. Marin had to make a few saves before the momentum culminated with a Shay O'Neill free kick shot, curling towards the top-left corner of the goal. Marin made an incredible diving save to keep the shutout alive for Clark.
- The Clark defense held off the final minutes of play to secure the shutout for the Golden Bears, and WNE lost the game 1-0.

- Clark defeated WNE 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
- Clark scored in the 56th minute when Myles Nelson-Atkins threw the ball to Luke Sheldon, who crossed the ball to Ben Siegel. Siegel sent a header shot into the goal for the 1-0 lead.
- WNE concluded the game with more shots, 19-11, and more corner kicks, 4-3.
- Clark ended the game with more fouls, 12-6, and more saves, 5-4.
- Both teams had five shots on goal.
- Neither team received a yellow or red card.
