SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 23, 2025) – Western New England quarterback Kelan Cornell and place kicker Max LoGrasso have both been honored this week by the Conference of New England as Athletes of the Week, with Cornell named CNE Football Rookie of the Week and LoGrasso as the CNE Special Teams Player of the Week. 

Cornell impressed in the second half against Worcester State, leading the charge to a 48-13 win over the Lancers. Cornell attempted five passes, completing two for 48 yards. It was the run game for the Cranston, Rhode Island native that made him stand out, rushing 11 times for 103 yards and scoring three touchdowns in the victory. The first-year quarterback averaged 9.4 yards per carry and marched the team down the field multiple times, highlighted by a 50-yard touchdown to open his scoring. Cornell led all rushers in the game, helping WNE to 304 total yards of offense on the ground. 

Max LoGrasso converted both of his field goal attempts against Worcester State, including a career-high 42-yarder in the win. LoGrasso opened the scoring for the Golden Bears with a 27-yard field goal to open the scoring. LoGrasso then nailed his 42-yarder following a 12-play, 50-yard drive to cap off the scoring in the first half. The Lynn, Massachusetts, native came up with six made point after attempts on six tries, adding six points to the scoreboard to cap a flawless kicking performance. 

The Western New England football team is back in action this coming Saturday, September 27 at 1:00 PM, opening Conference of New England play at the University of New England.
