SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 15, 2026) – Western New England women's basketball junior
Sophie Hedge has received honors from the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) for the third time this season following her performance last week in Conference of New England (CNE) action.
Hedge scored a career-high 33 points last week in a win at Endicott College, shooting 13/20 from the field while going 4/7 from beyond the arc. Hedge was a perfect 3/3 from the free-throw line to lead Western New England to victory. Additionally, Hedge picked up eight rebounds in the win and collected three steals in the 76-60 win. To add to her stellar week, the Guilford, Connecticut, native continued her streak of double-digit scoring in a home game against the University of New England, scoring 19 points on five field goals made, including four from the outside. Hedge also picked up a rebound, two assists, and a steal in the game against the Nor'easters.
Hedge's impressive 51 points, nine rebounds, and four steals earn her a spot on the NEWBA Second Team of the Week, claiming honors for the third time this season from the organization. Though not counting towards last week's nomination, Hedge poured in 14 points, seven rebounds, and four assists in last night's 61-36 victory against Nichols College, marking the 11
th straight game in double figures for the WNE junior.
Western New England women's basketball returns to the floor this coming Saturday when they host Wentworth Institute of Technology at 2:00 PM from the Anthony S. Caprio Alumni Healthful Living Center.
