Six From Men’s Wrestling Sit In Top Eight Of Latest NEWA Rankings

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 6, 2026) – Six members of the Western New England men's wrestling team have been ranked in the top eight of their respective weight classes, announced in the newest New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) rankings, released this week.

WNE sophomore Antonio Intintoli sits seventh overall in the 133 lb. weight class. Riding a seven-match win streak, Intintoli has been dominant on the mat since the turn of the new year, including coming up with a win in last weekend's dual at Coast Guard Academy, earning a major decision win, 11-3. Intintoli has 17 wins overall this season for Western New England, which ranks second overall on the team. The Port Washington, New York, native has earned five decision wins, five major decisions, four falls, and two technical falls this season.

Austin Monteiro sits eighth overall in the 141 lb. weight class, remaining in the latest NEWA rankings this week. Monteiro has seven victories for the Golden Bears on the mat, four of which have come on decision. Monteiro came up with a big victory before the new year on December 17 when the Wilbraham, Massachusetts native came up with a 2-0 decision win over Johnson & Wales University, the reigning NCAA DIII National Champion.

Matthew Rodriguez continues his ranked status in the 157 lb. weight class, sitting sixth overall. Rodriguez earned a fourth-place finish at the Will Abele Invitational on January 17, earning three victories, including two fall wins for the Golden Bears. Rodriguez has 15 total wins on the year for Western New England, six decisions, five falls, two technical falls, and two major decision wins overall.

Teghan McConnell ranks fifth for the Golden Bears in the 165 lb. weight class. McConnell was a second-place finisher at the Will Abele Invitational three weeks ago, earning four wins at the event. McConnell also came away with a 9-8 decision win over Wesleyan's Kellan Horst in dual action. Overall, the Bedford, New
Hampshire native has earned 12 wins on the season, four falls, three technical falls, two major decisions, and two regular decisions.

Maxwell Bluhm had won nine straight matches in a row leading up to last weekend's dual at Coast Guard. Bluhm's season has been highlighted by a first-place finish at the Will Abele Invitational, earning two decision wins, a technical fall win, and a fall victory at the event to take the win in the 174 lb. weight class. Bluhm is tied with Intintoli with 17 victories on the season, five of which have come as falls and five have been decision victories.

Jaylen Hawkins ranks seventh overall in the 184 lb. weight class despite not having wrestled in nearly a month. Hawkins' dominant start to the season has pushed the WNE graduate student into the top eight of the NEWA rankings. Hawkins has ten wins for the Golden Bears, half of which have come via technical fall, leading WNE in that category.

The Western New England men's wrestling team competes this coming Saturday, February 7, beginning at 12:00 PM at the Southern Maine Quads, taking on USM, Trinity College, and Plymouth State University.
