SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 16, 2026) – Western New England baseball's
Corey Kilroy and WNE softball's
Marley Rodriguez have earned Golden Bear Athlete of the Week honors this week, following games played during spring break in Florida, starting last Monday (3/9) through Sunday (3/15).
Kilroy played in six games during the week, slashing .455 at the plate, coming away with a team-high ten hits over 22 at-bats. Kilroy collected a pair of doubles during the week, one coming against Thomas College (3/12) and another against UMass-Boston (3/13), both wins for the Golden Bears. Kilroy added eight runs batted in for the week, collecting at least one RBI in four of the six games played, including a three-RBI afternoon to cap off the RussMatt Invitational against UMass-Boston. Kilroy is now hitting .353 for the season, has scored nine runs, and picked up 12 total RBIs.
Rodriguez saw action in eight games for the Golden Bears this past week, making all eight starts at the top of the WNE softball lineup. The WNE junior hit .423 at the dish, collecting a team-high 11 hits in 26 at-bats, including three extra-base hits and three RBIs for the week. Rodriguez had at least one hit in seven of those eight games, including two-hit performances over Sage College (3/9) and Otterbein University (3/12), and a three-hit afternoon against Calvin University (3/10). The Austin, Texas, native is hitting .457 for the season, collecting 16 hits, six for extra bases, including a home run, and has six RBIs through 11 games played.
The Western New England baseball team saw its home opener postponed on Tuesday due to rain, and will be back on the field on Wednesday, March 18, at 3:30 PM, taking on the United States Coast Guard Academy. Western New England softball's home opener on Wednesday has also been postponed. The Golden Bears will now open their home schedule on Sunday, March 22 at 12:00 PM in Conference of New England action with a doubleheader against the University of New England.
