MILTON, Mass. (April 18, 2026) – Tanner Wall started a strong day for the Golden Bears with an 8-inning, ten-strikeout win in game one before Colby Dimenna recorded a seven-inning, two earned runs performance. Together, the two pitchers helped the Golden Bears sweep the Colonels with assistance from
Ryan Montini,
Tyler Waterbury,
Noah Schermerhorn, and
Tyler Kornacki.
Game One:
Score:
- Western New England: 4
- Curry College: 3
How it Happened:
First Inning:
- The Golden Bears got the game started with a double from Tyler Waterbury and a single from Ryan Montini to have runners on the corners. However, a final batter strikeout would keep them from getting the game's first run. WNE's Tanner Wall kept the Colonels hitless in the bottom of the first to move the game to the second.
Second Inning:
- Curry's Henry Marino responded likewise by sitting WNE down one, two, three in the top of the second. Curry would get runners to second and third, with no outs. However, Wall struck out the next two batters and got the final batter to ground out to second to end the inning without a run.
Third Inning:
- WNE opened the scoring in the third as they saw Ryan Montini double to left field to score Tyler Waterbury. WNE gained the 1-0 lead. Wall would hold the lead in the bottom of the third with a one, two, three inning.
Fourth Inning:
- WNE would not get a runner on base in the fourth before the Colonels grabbed the lead. Joey Kazlauskas doubled to left, scoring Jorge Rodriguez to tie the game at one. Blake Fuller then reached on an error, and Kazlauskas scored to give Curry College the lead, 2-1.
Fifth Inning:
- Antonio Galizia recorded a leadoff single for WNE, but the Golden Bears could not score him. The Colonels got a runner on base also, but like WNE, could not capitalize on the scoring chance.
Sixth Inning:
- WNE had a couple of opportunities to score in the top of the inning, but Corey Kilroy would get thrown out at home, looking to score. Wall would hold strong in the bottom of the sixth, striking out two, to lead the teams into the seventh inning.
Seventh Inning:
- The seventh saw WNE threaten again, but Ryan Bohrman would strand two Golden Bears on base by getting the final WNE batter to fly out. It continued to be a defensive battle as Wall only let up a single to Fuller and would get the other three batters faced, out.
Eighth Inning:
- WNE found the equalizer in the eighth inning thanks to a Connor Cowern single through the left side of the infield. Kilroy scored, and the score was 2-2. Bohrman struck out the final two batters of the inning and gave the Colonels momentum.
- Curry College would capitalize on the momentum and retake the lead off a wild pitch, which brought Michael Frausto home. The Colonels led 3-2 going into the final inning of play.
Ninth Inning:
- The Golden Bears would not go away. Reegan Thomas entered the game for Curry College, looking for the save. The Golden Bears would not allow that. Corey Kilroy hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field, which scored Leo Paragarino.
- Then, Mark Zigmont hit a sacrifice fly ball to right field, scoring Tyler Waterbury. WNE led 4-3 and had to hold on for three more outs.
