Baseball Drops Home CNE Contest To Suffolk, 15-11

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 21, 2026) – In another Tuesday afternoon offensive slug fest, the Western New England baseball team could not come out on top over the Rams of Suffolk University, dropping a home contest 15-11 in Conference of New England action.

Records:
  • Western New England: 13-15, 7-6 CNE
  • Suffolk University: 6-22, 4-9 CNE
How it Happened:

First Inning:
  • Suffolk opened the game with the first run of the contest, picking up two hits off WNE starter Aiden Bisaillon, as Cole Hillard singled, Sam Armbruster reached on an infield error, and Luke Thornton came up with an RBI single, giving the Rams the early 1-0 lead.
Second Inning:
  • Western New England responded in the bottom of the second inning after a nine-pitch inning from Bisaillon, putting three runs on the board to take a 3-1 lead. Tyler Kornacki reached on a hit by pitch while Connor Cowern doubled with one out to put runners on second and third. Leo Paragarino picked up a two-RBI single to give WNE the 2-1 lead, while a bases-loaded walk issued to Ryan Montini scored another to put the Golden Bears ahead 3-1 after two innings.
Third Inning:
  • Suffolk put up a four-spot in the top of the third inning, taking advantage of a pair of WNE errors in the inning. Jack Mihalkchik singled to open the frame, while a throwing error in the infield brought Mihalkchik all the way around the bases to get Suffolk within one. Back-to-back hits, a triple from Armbruster and a single from Thornton, gave Suffolk a 4-3 lead, while Mike Mullaney reached on the second WNE error of the inning to score Thornton, giving Suffolk a 5-3 lead after the top of the frame.
  • Western New England loaded the bases with one out in the frame, but could only come away with one run on a Jack Gamache fielder's choice to pull the Golden Bears back within one, trailing 5-4 after the inning.
Fourth Inning:
  • The Rams got Western New England's run back in the top of the fourth inning to close the books on Aiden Bisaillon, who lasted just 3+ innings, giving up six runs following the run from Jack Mihalchik in the inning, seeing the Rams take 6-4 advantage after the top of the inning.
  • Western New England put up a four-spot on Suffolk in the bottom of the fourth off Colin McNeal. Tyler Waterbury reached on an infield error by the Rams, stole a base, and scored on a Ryan Montini double, pulling the Golden Bears back within one, 6-5. Tyler Kornacki's triple evened the score at six, scoring Waterbury, while the junior came home on a wild pitch to give Western New England the lead back. WNE added one more run in the inning on a solo home run from Connor Cowern, his second blast of the season, giving the Golden Bears an 8-6 lead.
Fifth Inning:
  • The Rams went down in order in the top of the fifth, while one swing of the bat plated two more for the Golden Bears in the bottom of the frame when Corey Kilroy notched a two-RBI double to center field, extending Western New England's lead to four, its largest of the afternoon thus far, leading 10-6.
Sixth Inning:
  • Western New England's lead was quickly whipped away when Suffolk put up five runs in the top of the sixth to take back the lead. The Rams batted through the order in the inning and got offensive production from Jack Mihalchik, Sebastian Lampert, and Mike Mullaney, who all had hits in the inning, as Suffolk took an 11-10 lead.
Seventh Inning:
  • The Rams grabbed another run in the top of the seventh inning after Sam Armbruster picked up a sacrifice fly to score one as the Rams took a 12-10 lead.
  • WNE bounced back for one in the bottom of the inning when Tyler Kornacki picked up an RBI single through the left side of the diamond to score Tyler Waterbury, again pulling the Golden Bears within one, 12-11.
Ninth Inning:
  • Suffolk picked up three runs in the top of the ninth inning that deflated Western New England. Sam Armbruster's one-out, two-RBI double was the backbreaker for the Golden Bears, who saw Suffolk come away with the 15-11 win to sweep the season series.
Inside the Lines:
  • WNE's 11 runs and 13 hits offensive was not enough to cover for the 15 runs on 16 hits that the WNE pitching allowed.
  • Tyler Kornacki went 3-for-3, picking up a pair of RBIs. Connor Cowern was 3-for-5 in the game, blasting a solo home run.
  • Seven of WNE's 13 hits went for extra bases. Kornacki, Cowern, Leo Paragarino, Tyler Waterbury, and Corey Kilroy all had extra base hits.
  • Aiden Bisaillon lasted just 3+ innings, giving up six hits and six runs, three earned, walking and striking out one. Jack Lewis struggled, earning the loss in the game, giving up five hits and five runs.
  • Three Rams, Jack Mihalchik, Colin Flynn, and Cole Hillard all had three hits in the game.
Up Next on the Schedule:
