Back-And-Forth CNE Contest Goes WNE’s Way, Bullpen Shuts Down Hawks Late in 12-6 Tuesday Afternoon Win

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 28, 2026) – The Western New England baseball team hung up four straight zeros on the visiting University of Hartford Hawks, seeing Jack Lewis and Jason Pinsonnault combine to throw 4.2 innings, giving up no runs and striking out four Hawks in a 12-6 Conference of New England victory on Tuesday afternoon from Trelease Park.

Records:
  • Western New England: 18-18, 10-6 CNE
  • University of Hartford: 19-12-1, 12-4 CNE
How it Happened:

First Inning:
  • Aiden Bisaillon turned a double play to open the top of the first inning, while the offense responded with three in the bottom of the inning to take the early lead. A fielder's choice from Tyler Kornacki opened the scoring for WNE, scoring Tyler Waterbury who walked and made his way quickly around the bases to get in scoring position to give the Golden Bears a 1-0 lead. Leo Paragarino then singled back up the middle to score Kornacki, extending WNE's lead. Connor Cowern then had the second hit of the inning for the Golden Bears, continuing his hot streak with an RBI double, giving Western New England the opening 3-0 lead after one inning.
Fourth Inning:
  • The Hawks bounced back for three runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning to even the score despite Bisaillon getting the Hawks to bounce into its third double play of the game. Three straight hits to start the inning, coming from the top of Hartford's order in Cameron Boardman, JJ Romatzick, and Jackson Ciccone, put Hartford on the board for the first time in the game. After hitting into a double play, the Hawks got a two-run home run with two outs when Jeremy Mangiameli notched his team-leading fourth homer of the season, tying the score at three.
  • The Golden Bears put up a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to grab the lead back, taking a 5-3 advantage. Connor Cowern took a one-out walk, followed by back-to-back RBI hits, one from Noah Schermerhorn and another from Andrew Florek, giving the Golden Bears a two-run lead after four innings.
Fifth Inning:
  • Another three-spot in the top of the fifth inning for the Hawks gave Hartford its first lead of the game as Jackson Ciccone came up with another big hit, singling up the middle with the bases loaded to score two Hawks, giving Hartford a 6-5 lead. Jack Lewis replaced Aiden Bisaillon in the inning, getting a popout and a base running blunder by the Hawks to get out of the frame without additional damage.
  • The Golden Bears quickly tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning after Tyler Kornacki led off with a double to left field, quickly followed by an RBI single from Corey Kilroy to even the score at six after five frames.
Sixth Inning:
  • Western New England popped off for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead back in the game. WNE loaded the bases on Hartford's Logan Smalley, a single from Andrew Florek, a fielder's choice to Jack Gamache, and a walk to Tyler Waterbury to load the bases. Hartford's Julan Rondon issued a walk to score one to Ryan Montini, a pair of wild pitches to extend the WNE lead, and an RBI single from Tyler Kornacki, giving the Golden Bears a 10-6 lead after the inning.
Eighth Inning:
  • The Golden Bears added two runs on Michael Greco and the Hawks in the bottom of the eighth to add insurance to their lead. A wild Greco hit three batters in the inning and walked one, while throwing a wild pitch to score another, seeing WNE take a 12-6 lead after eight.
Ninth Inning:
  • Jason Pinsonnault tossed the final inning for the Golden Bears, setting down the Hawks, coming up with a strikeout in the frame to give the Golden Bears the six-run victory, 12-6.
Inside the Lines:
