Rams Take CNE Contest Over Golden Bears In Ten, 7-6

BOSTON, Mass. (April 7, 2026) – The Western New England baseball team couldn't get back on the right foot on Tuesday afternoon in Conference of New England action, falling to the now three-win Rams of Suffolk University by a final score of 7-6 in ten innings.

Records:
  • Western New England: 10-13, 3-4 CNE
  • Suffolk University: 3-18, 2-5 CNE
How it Happened:

First Inning:
  • Looking to snap a four-game skid, the Golden Bears got off to a promising start in the top of the first inning, plating three quick runs to start the scoring. Mark Zigmont and Leo Paragarino were issued walks to open the game, while Tyler Kornacki loaded the bases with a bunt single with no outs. The Golden Bears grounded into an out at the plate, but a wild pitch scored Paragarino, giving WNE a 1-0 lead. Tyler Waterbury then cleared the bases with a two-RBI triple, giving the Golden Bears a 3-0 lead.
  • Greg Nivison got into trouble in the bottom of the first inning, handing back the three runs the WNE offense gave him to work with right away as Suffolk tied the game at three before the inning ended. An error in the infield cost Western New England a run, while an RBI groundout and RBI double from Noah Greco evened the score at three after one frame.
Third Inning:
  • Leo Paragarino and Tyler Kornacki singled to begin the top of the third inning, but a double play turned by Suffolk's infield, followed by another routine grounder, sent the WNE bats down quickly in the inning.
  • Suffolk took its first lead of the game in the bottom half of the frame, seeing Sam Armbruster double, followed by a Luke Thornton single to score a run, giving the Rams a 4-3 lead. Suffolk threatened for more in the inning, leaving the bases loaded as Nivison escaped the jam with a strikeout.
Seventh Inning:
  • The WNE offense was silenced following the third inning, picking up just one hit through the middle frame, and went down in order in the top of the seventh.
  • The Rams added a run in the bottom of the seventh off Jack Lewis after Luke Thornton tripled, followed by a Sebastian Lampert single, giving the Rams a 5-3 lead.
Eighth Inning:
  • The top of Western New England's order came through in the game, seeing Paragarino open the eighth with a single and advanced to second base on a stolen base. Ryan Montini took a walk with two outs in the inning and advanced on a wild pitch, putting two runners in scoring position, but WNE struck out to end the inning to end the threat.
Ninth Inning:
  • Looking for any possible spark off the bench, Andrew Florek pinch hit and singled to left field and advanced to second on an error from Suffolk's left fielder, as the Golden Bears showed signs of life in the final frame. Alex Grenier stepped in for an infield single, putting a pair of runners on base, still with no outs. Three straight hits for the Golden Bears in the inning plated a run as Jack Gamache came up with an RBI single, getting the Blue and Gold within one, 5-4. The Golden Bears continued to hit after a pitching change was made by Suffolk, as Mark Zigmont came up with an infield hit to load the bases, still with no outs in the frame. Western New England tied the game with one out after Tyler Kornacki picked up a sacrifice fly, advancing Gamache to third. Corey Kilroy's two-out, RBI single plated another run, seeing WNE come back from two down in the inning to take a 6-5 lead.
  • Jack Lewis remained on the mound for the bottom of the ninth, getting a popout to begin the frame. Suffolk then picked up back-to-back singles, with Ambruster and Thornton aboard. Suffolk's runners advanced on a wild pitch and scored a run on a groundout, tying the game at six, as the game needed extra innings to find a winner.
Tenth Inning:
  • Ryan Montini and Tyler Waterbury both reached base with no outs in the top of the tenth inning, but the Golden Bears went down in order from there, leaving two runners in scoring position, handing the bats back to the Rams.
  • The first two in the Suffolk order went down in order on just eight pitches, but Suffolk's Colin Flynn reached on a single to center field, while Cole Hillard doubled to bring home the winning run, seeing the Rams defeat WNE 7-6 in extra innings.
Inside the Lines:
  • Tyler Kornacki continues to lead the Western New England offense, picking up three hits in four at-bats, collecting one RBI.
  • Tyler Waterbury was 2-for-5 in the game, picking up a pair of RBIs.
