Women’s Lacrosse Grounded By Suffolk In CNE Play

BOSTON, Mass. (April 8, 2026) – The Western New England women's lacrosse team fell in Conference of New England action on Wednesday night to the Rams of Suffolk University by a final score of 9-6, dropping a crucial CNE game.

Records:
  • Western New England: 7-6, 3-3 CNE
  • Suffolk University: 6-7, 3-4 CNE
How It Happened:

First Quarter:
  • The Rams opened the scoring just one minute into the game when Zoe Peckham scored while a player up, giving Suffolk the quick 1-0 lead. The two teams battled for possession, seeing multiple turnovers take charge of the game. Suffolk's Lauren Woods picked up the next goal of the contest as the Golden Bears started the game slowly and could never recover, seeing Suffolk open with a quick 2-0 lead.
  • Suffolk added two more goals before the Golden Bears could get on the scoresheet with Stella Maclelland and Pechkam scoring for the Rams, who opened a 4-0 lead just 7:55 into the game, forcing a WNE timeout. Following the timeout, Western New England scored its first goal of the game when Ella Henry scored for the Blue and Gold, dropping Suffolk's lead back to three with 5:59 still to play in the quarter.
  • Suffolk stopped the Western New England scoring there and added one more goal in the quarter when Jessie Le beat Emily Picolla, giving the Rams a 5-1 lead, a lead they held for the rest of the quarter, shocking the Golden Bears early. Both teams put up five shots on goal, while Suffolk won five of the seven draw controls.
Second Quarter:
  • Looking to rebound from a slow start, the Golden Bears had the first goal of the second quarter, seeing a free position shot from Carlie Francis beat Suffolk's Charlotte Guziejka, getting WNE back within three, 5-2. Emily Picolla made three saves in the opening five minutes of the quarter, but the Rams were able to beat the junior goalkeeper on their fourth attempt to take a 6-2 lead when Peckham had her third of the night.
  • No other scoring came about in the second frame, as both teams exchanged a goal apiece. WNE held a 7-6 shots advantage, but turned the ball over six times to Suffolk's four.
Third Quarter:
  • The Rams opened a five-goal lead just four minutes into the third quarter, scoring on a free position attempt to take a 7-2 lead over the Blue and Gold. Ella Henry had the next goal for the Golden Bears to show signs of hope, picking up the third of the night as WNE trailed 7-3.
  • The Golden Bears couldn't string together any goals as Suffolk was the next to score again when Zoe Peckham picked up another goal for the Rams, giving Suffolk an 8-3 lead. The Golden Bears picked up a pair of goals in under a minute when Lina Eves and Ella Henry found the back of the net to get Western New England back within three, 8-5, before the end of the quarter.
  • Emily Picolla came up with a big save with four seconds to play in the quarter, making four saves in total in the frame, as the Golden Bears trailed 8-5 with 15 minutes remaining in the game.
Fourth Quarter:
  • Needing a big offensive push in the final 15, Suffolk came away with the opening draw control, but Picolla came away with another save to keep WNE in the game. Western New England had four turnovers in the fourth quarter before taking its first shot, which came from Lyndsey Bunnell, who took a shot that went wide of the cage with ten minutes to play in the quarter.
  • Sydney Miles had WNE's first shot on goal with eight minutes left in the quarter, a shot saved by Guziejka to keep the Golden Bears from scoring. At the 4:07 mark of the quarter, Suffolk netted a back-breaking goal to go up by four as Julia Dickinson scored on a free position shot. Western New England couldn't mount a comeback, scoring just one more time in the game on a goal from Lina Eves, dropping the CNE contest by a final score of 9-6.
