SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 4, 2026) – The Western New England men's lacrosse team, coming off their Conference of New England championship over the weekend, sees two of their own named Golden Bear Athletes of the Week this week, seniors
Thomas Labbe and
Jacob Roy.
Labbe, named the Conference of New England's Most Outstanding Player in the tournament, helped lead the Blue and Gold to its first conference title since 2023. Labbe opened the week with a career-high five goals over the University of Hartford, taking seven shots, putting six on goal, and had the game-winning goal, his first GWG of the season, in a 15-12 victory to advance Western New England to the conference title game. In the CNE championship win over Endicott, Labbe fired home two more goals in postseason play, while adding an assist, good for three points on the afternoon. Labbe took six shots, putting five on goal, and finished the conference tournament with seven goals and an assist, good for eight points in the tournament. Labbe now has 25 goals and 13 assists on the season, while his assist against Endicott surpassed the 100-point mark for his career.
Roy was a consistent offensive threat all season for Western New England and continued that trend in the Conference of New England tournament, coming away with nine points over two games played. Roy opened the week with six points, finding the back of the net twice and adding four assists against the University of Hartford in the CNE semifinal round, taking 12 shots, putting five on goal, while picking up three ground balls in the win. In the conference-clinching game, Roy added a goal and two assists for the Blue and Gold, taking 11 shots, putting five more on goal, and picking up three more ground balls. Roy has a career-high 77 points this season over 19 games played, scoring 42 times and facilitating 35 assists.
The Western New England men's lacrosse team will take on SUNY Cortland in the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament this coming Wednesday, May 6, at 4:00 PM.
