SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Junior Ian Lovett (Newton, MA) scored the game winner in the 78th minute to lead visiting Amherst College to a 3-1 victory over Western New England College in a non-conference match.

WNEC (9-5-1) took a quick 1-0 lead when sophomore Tim Larocca (East Longmeadow, MA) scored his first goal of the season only 25 seconds into the contest.

Amherst (8-1) tied the game a short time later when junior Christian Alexander (Santa Fe, NM) scored at 5:07.

Both teams battled evenly for 72 minutes until Lovett fired home the winning shot. Junior Joe Gannon (Hanson, MA) added an insurance goal in the 87th minute.

Senior Dan Glenn (Berkeley, CA) made three saves for the Lord Jeffs while senior Jay Martyn (Poughkeepsie, NY) had five stops for the Golden Bears.

Amherst out-shot Western New England College by a 14-9 margin.
