SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Western New England College is beginning to like one-goal games.
The Golden Bears opened a five-game homestand with a 4-3 victory over Anna Maria College in a non-conference contest.
Freshman Cori Eggert (Denville, NJ) continued her fine play with two goals while junior Alyssa Katz (Cortlandt Manor, NY) and sophomore Allison Jameson (Brattleboro, VT) each added a goal and assist.
Eggert scored her seventh and eighth goals of the year in a 2:07 span late in the opening half to give the Golden Bears a 2-0 lead at the 7:24 mark.
Leading 2-1 at half-time, WNEC took a 3-1 advantage on an unassisted goal by Jameson (her team high 11th of the season) only 3:08 into the second half.
AMC scored four minutes later to again cut the margin to one before Katz gave the hosts another two-goal cushion with her sixth goal of the season with 16:07 remaining in the game.
The Amcats scored again with 13:45 left, but the Golden Bears held on to win their third straight one-goal outing.
Junior goalie Jillian Brown (Plymouth, MA) had six saves for the Golden Bears who improved their record to 8-4 after winning for the seventh time in their last eight games. WNEC is 4-1 in one-goal games this season.
