Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Playing their second game in less than 24 hours, the Western New England College field hockey team found the assignment a little tougher than expected.
Freshman Caitlin Gelber (Centereach, NY) scored two goals and junior Allison Jameson (Brattleboro, VT) added a goal and assist to lead the Golden Bears to a 4-2 victory over Husson (Maine) in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game.
The victory was the third in a row (and seventh in eight games) for coach Sarah Kelly's squad who raised its record to 13-3.
Western New England College also stayed unbeaten in the NAC with a 6-0 mark and moved into a first place tie with Maine-Farmington. The two teams will meet Saturday in the Pine Tree state.
Senior Alyssa Katz (Cortlandt Manor, NY) had the other goal while juniors Stephanie Gildart (Portland, ME) and Audrey Kelton (Wilder, VT) contributed assists.
Junior KaroleAnne Emery (Guilford, ME) had both of the goals for Husson (4-8, 2-5) while senior Janel Fearon (Lyman, ME) assisted on the first score. Emery’s second goal at the 13:19 mark pulled the Eagles to within 3-2 at half-time. Sophomore Kelly Bocchino (Vassalboro, ME) had a strong performance with 12 saves
Gelber tallied her second goal of the afternoon with 29:48 left in the game and the Golden Bears kept the Eagles off the board down the stretch.
